Spoilers for 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'

One of the casualties in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' is Peter Parker's (Tom Holland) beloved Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) confirming the leaks prior to the movie's release. This comes as a rude shock just before the interval after the Green Goblin/Norman Osborne (Willem DaFoe) kills her even as she and Peter hatch a plan to cure the baddies of their issues once they enter his world following the failure of Doctor Strange's spell. The death of the character marks the death of the second person closest to Peter after Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark in 'Avengers: Endgame'.

To quickly summarize, Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) intends to send the villains back to their universes and meet the fates they were destined for, while Peter wants to give them a second chance. He frees all the villains, Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Flint Marko (Thomas Haden Church), Dr Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Electro (Jamie Foxx), and confines the sorcerer in the mirror dimension after a brief fight. He cures Octavius by replacing his damaged chip with a new one he creates using Stark technology.

However, the Gobin persona possesses Osborne again before he can administer the cure and he convinces Dillon to remove the device Peter puts on his chest to cure him and despite he and Octavius trying to get the situation under control, he injures the web-slinger and critically injures May who succumbs to her injuries. The death, though, is a personal tragedy for Peter as he first witnesses Stark's death and then May. Her death also ends with one of the most powerful and famous lines of "With great power also comes great responsibility", the same line that was used by his uncle Ben in the comics and the previous 'Spider-Man' movies.

The death is also an MCU twist that sees her aunt die as there is no mention of Uncle Ben in Holland's movies. At the start of the movie, it was revealed that she had just broken up with Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), lending more depth to her character.

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' releases December 17 in the US.
