'Shrill' Season 2 Episode 3: Penniless Annie is struck by reality and she asks Gabe to give her job back

It had seemed like the only way forward - to quit The Thorn, leave the horrible boss behind and just go out by herself. But Annie Easton (Aidy Bryant) soon realized that the hurdles waiting for her are by no measure easy.
In the previous episode, Annie's boss Gabe Parrish (John Cameron Mitchell) had told her about the perils of freelancing. "You have an audience here [The Thorn]; out there you are on your own," he warns Annie. And with that malediction, Annie sits the next one month sans work, sans money.
Annie has been trying to find work for a month but hasn't been able to get anything. Giving up on solo life, she submitted her writings to a daily, but was informed that she is not exactly cut out for the job. Annie hasn't earned in the last one month, which means she is short of provisions too. It leads her to raid her parents' house for basics. Later, when she meets Amadi (Ian Owens), she lies to him that her interview with the newspaper went well and that she is looking at a job for herself. Soon, however, truth catches up and Annie just gives up. Amadi then invites Annie to Ruthie's (Patti Harrison) birthday party hoping it'll distract her from the problems.
At Ruthie's party, Annie hides behind a veil of lies. She tells her ex-colleagues that she is set to work with a daily, covering local politics. As congratulations are in order, Annie realizes the depth of the mess she has got into and is nearing a breakdown when Amadi suggests she simply ask Gabe for her job back. After all, he didn't fire her, she quit.
Gabe agrees to give Annie the job back. But he is tripping on ketamine. Is he in his senses at all? Will he even remember it the next morning?
