'Shardlake' Episode 3 Ending Explained: Brother Gabriel's tragic death thickens the plot
LONDON, ENGLAND: Hulu's newest historical crime drama series, 'Shardlake', transports viewers to the enthralling Tudo Era, headed by King Henry VIII.
Based on CJ Sansom's books, the series follows Matthew Shardlake (Arthur Hughes) and Jack Barak (Anthony Boyle) as they investigate the complicated murder case of Robin Singleton.
The St. Donatus Catholic Church is the focus of suspicion, but when Shardlake examines the case, fresh facts surface that alter the direction of the investigation.
Abbot Fabian refuses any responsibility for Simon Whelplay's murder

Shardlake, outraged by the discovery of Orphan Stonegraden's (Charlotte Christof) dead body, demands that the monks be held accountable for the killings and asks Abbot Fabian (Babou Ceesay) to surrender and close the monastery.
Shardlake promises to halt the investigation into the murder cases, provided Abbot surrenders and the monastery shuts down.
However, the monk remains unfazed, claiming that Stonegraden was planning something and that she may be murdered by men who come to the monastery.
He adds that Simon Whelplay (Joe Barber) died of a broken neck after falling from a height.

The next scene has Brother Gabriel (Miles Barrow) talking about Stonegraden's suffering in the monasteries and revealing that the young lady was often taken advantage of by the monks.
He mentions that Stonegraden was close to Whelplay so it is probable that he was aware of Stonegraden's death, and both were murdered by the same person.
While he was speaking, the same mysterious person killed Gabriel by shooting an arrow at him.
Shardlake, heartbroken by Gabriel's death, requests Barak to remain at the monastery waiting for the accounting book's results while he travels to London to find out who owns the sword.
In the next scene, Shardlake is hit by the same man's henchman, who had been pursuing him secretly.
The episode concludes with Shardlake lying unconscious on a London street.
