'Shardlake' Season 2 Update: Here's the renewal status of Hulu's mystery drama

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: 'Shardlake' Season 1 premiered on Hulu on May 1, 2024, and those who have seen all four episodes of the thrilling murder mystery based on CJ Sansom’s novels, are curious about the future of this series and whether the series will return for a second season.
The series follows Matthew Shardlake (Arthur Hughes) and Jack Barak (Anthony Boyle) who solve the mystery behind the murder of Master Singleton who dies in a monastery called St. Donatus. Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) who hires Shardlake has tasked them to find the murderer, shut down the monastery, and acquire the wealth for the public.
At the end of the series, the murder mystery is resolved but the culprit Alice Feweter (Ruby Ashbourne Serkis) is allowed to escape by Jack who loves her. Brother Edwig (David Pearse) is also murdered by Shardlake in self-defense and as justice for his crimes of rape and murder. With the conclusion of this story, will there be a Season 2 for 'Shardlake'? Here is an update.
'Shardlake' Season 2 update
Unfortunately for the fans of the series, there is no update about the renewal of 'Shardlake' for a second season from Hulu or from the makers of the series so far.
'Shardlake' however is based on a series of murder mystery novels and the makers may renew it for a second season with a different murder mystery based in the same world.
Renewal of the second season would depend on the reception and streaming numbers of the first season of 'Shardlake'. If the numbers are good, and the reception is positive, you may see Arthur Hughes reprise his role as barrister Matthew Shardlake.
What to expect from 'Shardlake' Season 2?
'Shardlake' Season 2 could be about a whole new murder mystery based on the politics and happenings of England in the 16th century. The novel 'Shardlake' has many parts and the makers could choose one of them to make another season.
From the first season, the characters of Matthew and Jack could once again be doing Cromwell's work. However, we do see Matthew Shardlake conflicted about his loyalty towards Cromwell after learning about his role in the death of Anne Boleyn.
Alice, who is Jack's love interest, is still alive and may re-appear in the second season so could Jerome (Paul Kaye), who has a bone to pick with Cromwell.
The second season could also have Jack facing the consequences of the murder of Dr Goodhap (Matthew Steer). While Shardlake promises to hide it from Cromwell and the world, guilt-stricken Jack could bear the brunt of the murder.
