'Selena: The Series': Meet Christian Serratos, Ricardo Chavira, Seidy López, and rest of cast of Netflix's scripted project on the Tejano singer
Two years ago the streaming giant Netflix revealed a project on late singer Selena Quintanilla and now the anticipated season is set to air. The singer born in Texas is an icon and is known as the "Queen of Tejano music". Most remember the unfortunate date when in 1995 at the age of 23, the singer was shot to death. This is not the first time her life has been adapted to screen - Jennifer Lopez played the titular role in a 1997 biopic of the singer. The 2020 Netflix series is reportedly a two-part coming-of-age story that will take audiences from Corpus Christi where the singer first started, all the way to how her stardom came to be. Here is the cast that will bring the legendary story to your small screens.
Christian Serratos as Selena Quintanilla
Serratos is most popularly known for her role as Rosita Espinosa in 'The Walking Dead' (2014-2021). Her other notable works include her roles as Angela in 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1' (2011), Raven in 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' (2011-2012), Roxie Santos in 'Lip Service' (2013), and Raquel Mendoza in 'Flight 750' (2014). The actress was nominated for a Young Artist Award in 2008 for Best Performance in a TV Series - Recurring Young Actress in 'Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide' (2004) where she played the role of Suzie Crabgrass and she won a Young Artist Award in 2009 for Best Performance in a Feature Film - Supporting Young Actress for 'Twilight' (2008).
Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla
Chavira is known for his roles as Carlos Solis in 'Desperate Housewives' (2004-2012), Sam in 'Piranha 3D' (2010), Sgt. John Carver in 'Dead Space 3' (@013) and Rafael Serano in 'Burn Notice' (2013). His most recent works include 'Kevin Can Wait' (2018), 'Tournament' (2018), 'Rise' (2018), 'Narco Soldiers' (2019), and 'Christmas Reservations' (2019). He has a release titled 'Cosmic Radio' releasing in 2021 and has a release titled 'Reefa' in post-production.
Seidy López as Marcella Quintanilla
Lopez is known for her roles as Dreamer in 'Training Day' (2001), Harried Mother in 'CSI: NY' (2012), Martha in 'Slippin Into Darkness' (2020), and Mother in 'The Bridge' (2014). Her recent works include 'Soaked in Bleach' (2015), 'Last Chance' (2015), 'Kings' (2017) and she is filming a release titled 'Bloody Maria'. This year the actress won a Commendation at the Focus International Film Festival for Best Supporting Actress for 'Slipping Into Darkness'.
Gabriel Chavarria as AB Quintanilla
Chavarria is known for his roles as the preacher in 'War for the Planet of the Apes' (2017), Danny in 'Lowriders' (2016), and Tito in 'Freedom Writers' (2007). His recent works include 'Behind Enemy Lines' (2017), 'Hunter Killer' (2018), and 'The Purge' (2018). The actor was nominated for two Imagen Awards - one in 2017 for Best Actor - Feature Film for 'Lowriders' and one in 2019 for Best Actor - Television for 'The Purge'.
Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla
Gonzalez is known for her roles as Delia in 'The Tax Collector' (2020), Molly Solis in 'Dark/Web' (2019) and Mia Rosales in 'The Young and the Restless' (2018-2019). Her recent works include 'Cobalt 60' (2015), 'The Kicks' (2015-2016), 'The Good Nanny' (2018), 'Halfway' (2019) and 'Penance' (2019). In 2019 she was nominated for a Hollywood North Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'Slipping Into Darkness' and this year was awarded a Commendation at the Focus International Film Festival for Best Actress for the same production.
The rest of the cast includes Madison Taylor Baez as Young Selena, Juan Martinez as Young AB, Daniela Estrada as young Suzette, Jesse Posey as Chris Perez, Julio Macias as Pete Astudillo, Hunter Reese Peña as Ricky Vela, Carlos Alfredo Jr as Joe Ojeda and many more.
The official synopsis reads, "A coming-of-age story following Selena as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music."
