Made In Heaven! How Barbra Streisand and James Brolin keep spark alive in 25-year marriage
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: The 25-year-long romantic marriage of Barbra Streisand and James Brolin is undoubtedly the epitome of what writers mean when they say ‘love stories are made in heaven’. The couple first met in 1996 when they had reached the age of 50 and had suffered several failed marriages. They then proved what true love is like by remaining at each other's sides during thick and thin. Streisand and Brolin have now become grandparents but they still act like teens in love around each other.
The couple first met on a blind date dinner party in 1996, when Streisand was 54 and Brolin was 56. However, Brolin failed to make a dapper first impression on Streisand as she claimed he did not look like the guy she had envisioned. "I expected a guy with a brown beard and brown, wavy hair, like a mountain man," she joked in a 2021 appearance on ‘The Tonight Show’. Streisand was unable to restrain herself and bluntly told Brolin that his hair was a disaster.

How Barbra Streisand and James Brolin fell in love?
Surprisingly her remark did not turn Brolin off, but rather helped him realize that she was the one. The couple continued to interact and made efforts to build a relationship. They soon felt the spark and decided to date each other. However, Streisand and Brolin kept their relationship under wrap until they made their red carpet debut at the Ziegfeld Theater for the New York City premiere of ‘The Mirror Has Two Faces’, according to People.
Exactly two years after their first date, Streisand and Brolin tied the knot in a star-studded backyard wedding. "We wanted to be surrounded by people we've loved for a long time," Streisand told PEOPLE. Before their marriage, Streisand was married to Elliot Gould from 1961 to 1973 and shared a son, Jason. Brolin also had two failed marriages, the first lasting 20 years to casting director Jane Agee and the second lasting over 10 years to Jane Smithers, Amomama reported.
'I can't wait to see her again in the morning'
After the ceremony, the ‘Accidental Love’ actor expressed how lucky he was to have Streisand in his life and could not wait to spend the rest of her life with her. "Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can't wait to see her again in the morning," he gushed. Talking about the dynamic between them, Brolin once said he admired Streisand for being a woman who was not scared to express her views. The actor added that he was calmer in their union, and appreciated his wife for pushing him to do things he never thought possible.
Brolin is also delighted with the fact that their marriage has outperformed expectations and withstood the recent epidemic. He told People that unlike other couples, he and Streisand fell deeper in love during the lockdown.
"Neither one of us have ever gone out the door [after] an argument and we are good at talking things out. And 23 years is better than ever, I must say," he said.
Also, they keep things exciting by making each other feel special, and Streisand is brilliant at coming up with creative ways to express her love for her spouse.
Keeping the spark alive
Streisand and Brolin have been enjoying their decades-long marriage in their Malibu mansion. Their magnificent home is a sight to behold and is reportedly worth more than $80 million. The couple has owned the property since the 1990s. The home is equipped with a barn, a mill house, and what they call 'grandma's home'. They have also built a huge flower bed, which Brolin claims, helped them spend a lot of time together.
Apart from gardening, the couple also loves to make art and swim together, which is an activity they do to keep fit. The cherry on top of their relationship is their fondness for their grandchildren. Streisand shared an adorable picture of her, Brolin, and their granddaughter Westlyn, expressing how excited they were to spend time with her. In addition, she shared a sweet photo of Westlyn eating from her grandma's plate while sitting inside a kitchen drawer.
