There was a major debate about songstress Barbra Streisand's name following unfounded claims that she was following in the footsteps of rocker Neil Young and pulling her songs from Spotify.

Young, 76, demanded the streaming platform either remove his catalog or cast out comedian Joe Rogan's podcast for allegedly spreading misinformation about the Covid-19 vaccine. While it's true that some artists requested their music be pulled from the platform in support of Young, some social media posts have caused quite the confusion by making false claims about who wanted out. One tweet from January 29 went viral after claiming nine artists were joining the boycott against Spotify

"Breaking: Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand, Queen, Paul McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Dave Grohl, Joni Mitchell, Pearl Jam are removing their music from Spotify in solidarity with Neil Young!!!" the post read.

A screenshot of the tweet was shared on Facebook, where it also went viral. However, USA Today later confirmed that among the artists listed in the post, only Mitchell had publicly called to pull her music from the platform in solidarity with Young as of February 2. The rest of the artists had made no such announcements.

Notably, claims that Barbra Streisand was removing her music from Spotify made waves on social media, with "Barbara Streisand" trending on Twitter. The wrongly-spelled name went viral on the platform and drew various reactions, with her fans rushing to slam the trend. "It’s BARBRA Streisand not Barbara Streisand, you uncultured heathens," one tweeted.

"People who don’t take the time to spell correctly are such losers. Sad," another added. "You better read up on Barbra Streisand if you don't know who she is. You come off like a totally ignorant sheep who's about 12 y/o," a comment read. "Spell it RIGHT. She's earned that and SO MUCH MORE. IT IS NOT BARBARA STREISAND!! IDIOTS! She's won more awards than almost anyone in entertainment."

"'Barbara' Streisand is trending because Trumpsters are getting their wee feelings hurt, and they're pretending not to know who she is. Makes sense for Russian bots to feign ignorance. It's 'Barbra,'" someone else added.

Her critics, meanwhile, claimed that Streisand's name trended with the wrong spelling because she was irrelevant. "F**k Barbara and Barbra Streisand," one wrote. "Quick, name 2 Barbara Streisand songs. Me either," another quipped.

"Barbara Streisand should threaten to put all of her music on Spotify if she really wants to apply pressure to remove @joerogan," someone else joked. "I think you spell it Barbra Streisand, but who the hell cares. I am so tired of Celebrity Shriekers DEMANDING whatever is bothering them be destroyed! Shut up all of you spoiled *******!" another added.

Aside from Young, guitarist Nils Lofgren said he would remove his solo recordings from Spotify. Lofgren has been a member of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band since 1984. Other artists who have announced they also want their music off the platform include former Young bandmate Graham Nash and R&B singer India Arie.
