'Three are enough!' Barbra Streisand's husband James Brolin 'having a fit' as singer wants more cloned dogs, says source
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK: Barbra Streisand is reportedly intending to clone more dogs after being bizarrely infatuated with her pooches, but her husband, James Brolin, is not particularly pleased with her desires. The 'Way We Were' star's pets, Violet and Scarlet, were created by growing cells taken from the mouth of her late curly-haired Coton de Tulear, Samantha.
The 80-year-old singer recently celebrated her dogs’ fifth birthday by sharing their cute snaps on Instagram. "They're five!" the 'Funny Girl' star wrote as she showered her pets with doggy cookies, new toys, and lots of kisses. Now that her dogs are getting older, Streisand feels it’s time to get another clone. "Violet and Scarlet turned five and Barbra feels the time is right to start the cloning process again since it takes at least several months," a source close to the star told Radar Online.

'James must be having a fit'
"Everyone knows she cloned her dear dog Samantha and so she should be a pro at this now. Creating clones from cloned dogs is known to result in healthy offspring," the source added. However, Brolin had adamantly refused to Barbra getting any more canines as the couple already has a third Coton de Tulear named Fanny, whom they adopted from Samantha’s breeder. "James must be having a fit. He thinks three dogs are enough," the source spilled.
The tipster continued by adding that when the actress gets an idea, it's impossible to talk her out of it. "When Barbra gets a bee in her bonnet, it's best to let her do what she wants," they shared, adding, she is planning to get more than one puppy. The insider added, "Barbra's hoping for two more at least." The source noted that no matter how hard Streisand tries, there will never be another Samantha. "Violet and Scarlet are different in personality to how Samantha was, but they've got her curly hair," they said.
'She was very rare'
Previously talking about her pets, Streisand told Variety, “They have different personalities. I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her brown eyes and her seriousness.” Streisand said when the cloned dogs arrived, she dressed them in red and lavender to tell them apart, which is how they got their names. In another interview with The Times, the actress said “I think any pet lover will understand this. I had to continue her DNA. There were no more curly-haired Cotons like Samantha — she was very rare. In order to get another I had to clone her.”
