'SEAL Team' Season 3 Episode 3 review: Bravo Team brush off personal battles as they head to a dangerous combat mission in Azerbaijan
The review contains spoilers from 'SEAL Team' Season 3 Episode 3 — 'Adapt & Overcome'
It's tough to live every second knowing that the next moment you could die. The Bravo Team constantly lives with that fear and comes out stronger with every mission. In the third episode titled 'Adapt & Overcome,' the team train together and meet DEVGRU’s new Commanding Officer Captain Grayson Lindell (Jamie McSharie). As they fight the battles on the ground, each member of the team is waging a war within.
Episode three zooms into the personal lives of the main characters. Jason Hayes (David Boreanaz) has his daughter Emma (Kerri Medders) visiting. As the two share a light-hearted conversation during a shopping therapy, Emma blatantly asks her dad: "You'd rather talk about me and guys than your emotional detachment issues?" Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr.) and his wife Naima (Parisa Fakhri) sit together and look at new houses. She expresses her wish to live in a lavish bungalow that is out of their budget.
Clay Spenser (Max Thieriot) is in a dilemma about whether to stay in the team or opt-out. Meanwhile, Sonny Quinn (AJ Buckley) and Lisa Davis (Toni Trucks) share an intimate moment and he drives her on their first date. As they set out to spend some time together, Lisa gets a text and she needs to get back. "I have to go. I am sorry," she tells him, and he understands. Emma, meanwhile, cleans and sets up the house for Jason. As he readies to go on the combat, she tells him: "Don't die." Jason assures her, "I'm not gonna die. I'm good."
The team begins the preparation. They are on a mission in Azerbaijan to help retake a power plant in order to avoid political instability in the area. The first rule of covert ops: know your enemy. Lisa briefs the team, "Azerbaijan is our only ally." Master Chief Hayes decides to divide his team into two: the water team and the land team.
As the team jumps off to a starry-lit up sky, the cinematography captures a beautiful blend of action-packed stunts in a scenic background. The scenes get even more thrilling as the team activates their power mode and shoots out the enemies.
Lisa beats herself up over the fact that she failed to find out the Iranian angle in time. She even pushed Sonny away and sat in front of her computer screen late into the night. Clay, meanwhile, speaks to his dad and tells him that he couldn't risk his career anymore.
Meanwhile, Ray gets an offer to be the new Warrant Officer and he accepts it. "Everything comes with a price. Welcome to the military, Ray," Lieutenant Commander Eric Blackburn (Judd Lormand) tells him. Back at home, he surprises his wife by announcing that they would buy the house she wanted. When she cross-questions him about his decision, he says, "I wanted to be a Master Chief. But I want to take care of my family. That's my priority." Naima then asks him about Jason. "You'll be an officer. Won't you outrank him?" Ray tells her, "Jason will be fine."
With more complexities on the way of the Bravo Team, how successful will they be in their next mission? What will ensue in their personal lives? From Boreanaz to Trucks and Neil Brown Jr., the performances will stay with you long after the episode is over. The episode perfectly balances out the personal and professional aspects of the repercussions of being a part of the most elite unit of Navy SEALs.
