'Scissor Seven': Release date, plot, trailer and all you need to know about the hit Chinese animated series
Netflix is boosting its international cred in 2020 by introducing global audiences to more diverse content from across the globe. Exercising the same thought, the platform is beginning this stint with the Chinese animated phenomenon, 'Scissor Seven', originally titled 'Killer Seven'. Here’s everything you need to know about the production company's latest animated offering.
Release date
'Scissor Seven' will arrive on Netflix on January 10.
Plot
'Scissor Seven' follows the adventures of Wu Liuqi, an amnesiac not-so-deadly assassin who is also a master for disguise. He takes jobs for a nominal fee but he's nowhere near the best there is at what he does and that's where most of the series' humor comes from. Here's the official plot synopsis, according to Netflix: "Seeking to recover his memory, a scissor-wielding, hairdressing, bungling quasi-assassin stumbles into a struggle for power among feuding factions."
Cast
The series stars He Xiaofeng, Duan Yixuan, and Jiang Guangtao, who is known for his work on 'Skiptrace' (2016), 'The Message' (2009) and 'Cong Cong Na Nian' (2014).
News
"We were impressed by the production quality of Scissor Seven [originally titled Killer Seven], as well as its unique storytelling style, which we believe will resonate and be loved by our animation fans around the world. It's worth noting that the series is the only Chinese-language title that received a nomination in the TV Film category at the 2018 Annecy International Animated Film Festival," John Derderian, director of content for Netflix, told the Global Times.
"As a global business that spans all over the world, it's incredibly important for us to have diverse stories tailored to different languages, different tastes, and different moods. We are working with creators all over the world to tell stories from all over the world. What we have seen is that when these stories connect locally, they are increasingly also well-received in other parts of the world," he added.
"This is the first time that we have cooperated with Netflix in such a way. Although the foreign professional institution showed their interest in this animation at the very beginning, the process of communication is still very complicated. We spent more than one year making the deal," the show's producer Zou Shasha told reporters.
Trailer
"People have always been hateful little weiners," the trailer declares, and so long as there's hate, there are assassins. The trailer for the show promises to deliver a funny, irreverent, and action-filled comedy about a low-ranked assassin who makes up for his lack of skill with an abundance of attitude, told through a very traditional animation style. The show seems to combine the vibes of 'Final Space' and 'Deadpool' with a very street-level narrative that could work to make it one of the funniest new shows arriving on Netflix in 2020.
