'Saved by the Bell' reboot will see OG actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar return to reprise his role as Zack Morris

In a sea of reboots thriving in today's times, the latest in the list will be the evergreen sitcom 'Saved By the Bell' — all set to make its revival on NBC.

And now, the reboot has also locked down on a lead actor — Mark-Paul Gosselaar — the same actor who played the narrator and somewhat preppy jokester Zack Morris in the original from 1989 to 1992.

As for the rest of the cast, the original characters of Jessie Spano and AC Slater will be played by Elizabeth Berkley of 'Showgirls' and 'Extra's Mario Lopez, respectively — with both of them reprising their roles from the original and taking a trip back to Bayside High.

They will be joined by OG Kelly Kapowski aka Tiffani-Amber Thiessen, to return to the reboot as well. As for Gosselaar, the 45-year-old will also serve as an executive producer on the comedy's revival, while Lopez and Berkley are also hopping on board in producing capacities.

The last time we saw Gosselaar on the big screen was in 2019 when he took up the lead role of Brad Wolfgast on the Fox vampire sci-fi thriller 'The Passage' which was due for a second season after being welcomed widely but was axed much to its massive fanbase's outrage.

In the 25 years since Gosselaar last donned the Morris cap, he's also appeared on an extended stint on 'NYPD Blue', alongside headlining the series 'Franklin & Bash' with Breckin Meyer and Heather Locklear. In recent updates, he has also been a part of the ABC 'Black-ish' spinoff, 'Mixed-ish' as series regular Paul.

While Gosselaar has been listed for three episodes of the rebooted show so far, the single-camera 10-episode comedy will revisit his character who is now the governor of California.

He will be seen attempting to lead a program that will transfer a group of California low-income high school students to Pacific Palisades' wealthy Bayside High from the original sitcom.

'Champions' star Josie Totah joins the reboot's cast as the popular student Lexi, who is currently enrolled at Bayside.

Surprisingly, two major actors from the original who haven't been mentioned with regards to the reboot are Lark Voorhees, who played Lisa Turtle, and Dustin Diamond, known by his reputation for being the class dweeb — Screech.

The show's production developments come from Berkley's Instagram as the thrilled actress posted an Instagram photo from their first table read back in mid-December.

The photo is a selfie of her holding what looks like a script in a binder, which she captioned: "I'm so excited.... to be back at Bayside!!!! Today was the table read for our new SBTB !!!! Can’t wait for you all to see 10 new episodes on #nbc #universal #peacock soon!!!"

Peacock refers to the upcoming NBC streaming service which is set to launch in April with original programming (including this reboot) joining the line up by this summer to come.
