'Sacred Games' season 2: Release date, plot, cast, trailers and everything you need to know about Netflix original
The second season of 'Sacred Games' is all set for release on August 15. Here is all you need to know about the first Indian Netflix original series starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Saif Ali Khan
After a successful first season run, 'Sacred Games' is all set to woo viewers with a fresh season that explores the connection between Gaitonde and Guruji. Meanwhile, Sartaj needs to act quick and try to avert the danger looming over the city of Mumbai.
Based on Vikram Chandra's 2006 novel of the same name, the show features actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte. The show has reportedly been shot extensively across Mombasa (Kenya), Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The show is all set to release on Netflix on August 15, 2019.
In the first season, Mumbai gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) got in touch with a failed cop Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and warned him about a threat looming over the city. While Sartaj tried to reach out to him, the show explored Gaitonde's past as he rose to power in the underworld, but kept the mystery of how came to be found dead in a bunker right in the middle of the city.
Sartaj tries to unravel the mystery that he has left behind for him. That season ended with a cliffhanger, where Sartaj finds Gaitonde’s locked room. While in season one we knew there would be some sort of a bomb blast in the city, but the trailer seems to have confirmed our worst fears. Netflix unveiled a short description for the show that reads: "Ganesh Gaitonde's story has only just begun. Thirteen days gone, Bombay has twelve left. This game isn't quite over."
Saif Ali Khan
Saif Ali Khan plays the role of Inspector Sartaj Singh. The actor, known for his roles in movies like 'Omkara', Love Aaj Kal' and 'Dil Chahta Hai', told Scroll: "In season two, I think he will be much more activated and a bit softer. The graph starts from minus 10 and goes up to becoming a hero at the end of the book."
Siddiqui plays Ganesh Gaitonde, who challenges Sartaj to save Mumbai from a supposed bomb blast. The actor, who has played key roles in 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Raman Raghav 2.0', said people won't know what to expect from Ganesh Gaitonde even if they know him.
The other cast includes: Radhika Apte as Anjali Mathur, Pankaj Tripathi as Khanna Guruji, Kalki Koechlin as Batya Abelman and Ranvir Shorey as Shahid Khan. Sobhita Dhulipala and Harshita Gaur may also make an entry in the season two.
Filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane collaborated and directed the two different time frames in the show. The Netflix original series is adapted from Vikram Chandra's novel and written by Varun Grover, Smita Singh and Vasant Nath. The show was produced under Phantom Films. The novel was adapted by Kelly Luegenbiehl, Erik Barmack and Motwane served as the executive producers.
Unleashing the much-awaited trailer, Netflix captioned the 2.10-trailer, "The game's bigger, the stakes are higher, and the players are ready. Sacred Games Season 2 premieres 15 August, only on Netflix."
