round21 is a brand that celebrates athletics and creativity by combining the two to create a plethora of products and offerings, ranging from cool sports gear to NFTS. As per the brand's website -- "round21 empowers expression in sports in collaboration with artists and athletes. And, we connect with our community digitally and physically - exactly the way this generation of sports fans live."
Who is the founder?
Jasmine Maietta is the founder of round21. As per her LinkedIn, Jasmine has a highly impressive background -- she was the Global Vice President at Peloton Interactive, the Global Brand Director for Hasbro, and worked on brand marketing for Reebok. She graduated from Bowdoin College and has a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology. She also attended Trinity College-Hartford and has a Master's in Economics. Maietta was also a pro-basketball player in Spain.
As per the brand's website, the idea to start round21 came after Maietta "spent decades with athletes, entrepreneurs, artists, and entertainers who love sports." In a conversation with Design Milk, Maietta spoke about how visual customization of sports gear was the ideal canvas. "I think all sports equipment could use a visual makeover if it brings to life the identity of the player," she said. "But there's something so beautiful about a soccer ball: its dimensionality, the little hexagons around the ball that can act as mini-canvases for a variety of artists," she added.
What is the cost and where to buy?
round21 has a massive range of products, from basketball and soccer equipment to merchandise. A set of round21 ping pong balls will set you back by $12.99 and can be purchased on the brand's website. Some of the brand's more custom pieces, such as the limited edition Sket x round21 basketball retails for $150. As per the website, the ball "Designed by LA-based artist Sket One, is an original collectible and playable performance basketball designed by Sket one and the 2nd in a series of 3 product drops with round21." The brand also gives shoppers information about the art and artist saying, "California-based visual artist Sket One, brings the original Sket One "Phase 1" style to life in full color with his classic graphic elements that evoke the excitement and fun of Sket's iconic character, now through the lens of basketball. Sket One began his career as a graffiti artist in the late 80s. It looks like round21 continues to collaborate with a wide range of artists, creating a truly one-of-a-kind sports equipment line. As per their Instagram, one of their most recent collaborations is with artist Jacques Slade — "#1 of a 4-part series: round21 x @kustoo. Jacques Slade is one of the most well-known and influential voices in the world of sneakers. His work goes beyond just being a Content Creator and Host. Jacques is also a musician, actor, and the creative behind his original content that features reviews on the latest sneaker releases, live event coverage, and interviews with pro-athletes, musicians, designers, and visionaries. homes." The brand is creating NFTs as well, which can be purchased via their website.
Who will steal the deal?
As always, there is no telling who might take the bait, but round21 certainly looks like it is right up Mark Cuban's alley.
