Grogu crashes Oscar 2026, tries to clap as 'Aliens' star recreates iconic line: 'Get away from...'
A familiar 'Star Wars' character stole the spotlight briefly during the 2026 Oscars. Baby Yoda, better known as Grogu from 'The Mandalorian,' was one of the guests in attendance when Sigourney Weaver presented the Academy Award for Best Production Design alongside her Mandalorian and Grogu costar Pedro Pascal on Sunday.
While at it, she had a fun interaction with Kate Hudson and Grogu from the stage. The awards took place on Sunday at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.

"Production designers possess a special kind of movie magic that happens long before the cameras roll," Weaver said. "It begins with a sketch, a texture, a doorway, and suddenly, an entire world exists." Pascal helpfully added, "Cities, palaces, entire galaxies."
The conversation went on with Weaver adding, "Sometimes even alien worlds that our characters live in." Referencing the 'Alien' and 'Avatar', Pascal said, "You've had some experience with those." Weaver then blew a kiss to the audience when the cameras panned to Grogu.
The animatronic version of the character was seen interacting playfully with Hudson, a nominee for Best Actress in a Leading Role. Weaver then dished out a line from 'Aliens' to Hudson: "Get away from him, you b***h!" She signed off saying, "It's my soft maternal instinct." This left the audience in stitches, even as Hudson laughed and Grogu continued to play around in his seat.
On the movie front, the trailer for 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' was released earlier this year. While the trailer keeps its central plotline close to the vest, it does hint at familiar criminal faces causing trouble. The Hutts appear to be circling, and they are not exactly known for warm welcomes.
At one point, threats are aimed at Grogu. Fans of animation get a couple of treats too. Zeb Orrelios, a favorite from ‘Star Wars Rebels,’ pops up in live-action form and bonds with Grogu, declaring, “I like this kid!”
Also starring in the film is legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. He is seen voicing an Ardennian shopkeeper who may have information on the Hutts. Scorsese's character appears to be mighty friendly in the beginning, and he seems particularly helpful. "For that price, I’ll tell you whatever you want," he says when Mando offers him a coin emblazoned with the New Republic symbol.
However, he makes a dash when the bounty hunter reveals he's looking for a Hutt.' His participation was confirmed by Lucasfilm and Disney. Joining Scorsese is Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian. Sigourney Weaver as Ward, Steve Blum as Garazeb 'Zeb' Orrelios, Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt, and Jonny Coyne as an Imperial Warlord, and Dave Filoni reprises his role as New Republic X-wing pilot Trapper Wolf.
The logline of the film reads, "The New Republic enlists Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu following the fall of the Galactic Empire, during a period where remaining Imperial warlords threaten the galaxy." The movie is a continuation of the hit miniseries, 'The Mandalorian,' which has seen three seasons on Disney+. 'The Mandalorian & Grogu' will release on May 22 in cinemas.
