Spoilers for 'Rick and Morty' Season 4 Episode 6 'Never Ricking Morty'

After an excruciatingly long wait of almost five months, 'Rick and Morty' returned with the second half of its fourth season in the sixth episode titled 'Never Ricking Morty' complete with its signature interdimensional cable, observations, the return and cameos of some of its most beloved characters and what seemed like a never-ending train on writing devices.

'Rick and Morty' is notorious for taking long breaks in between their seasons, but Season 4 is the first time that show makers Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon took a break in the middle of a season run.

The very meta episode has its extremely enjoyable high points that continue to stick to the characteristic humor of the show. It begins on a train that no one knows how they got into and seems to house characters who wish to kill Rick for one reason or the other.

And just when you thought that this as the plot the episode was following, it takes a complete turn and runs off course — quite literally.

A still from 'Rick and Morty' (Adult Swim)

Rick, upon realising that they're trapped in an anthology, eventually detonates a continuity barrel which allows them to basically do whatever they please — leading to a lot of confusion and pandemonium for fans — and carry out their story however they live. Because without continuity, they need not care at all.

The episode with an entirely meta outlook focuses on the process of writing a 'Rick and Morty' episode. At one point, commenting on the anthology format, Rick says, "If we wanted one-offs, we would've done Interdimensional cable," hinting that the overwritten and unrelated tropes get tiresome to watch after a while.

Keen on making a feminist statement and answering criticizers of the show with a meta Bechdel Test, we see Summer (Spencer Grammer) and Beth (Sarah Chalke) monotonously attempt at passing it and proceeding to literally slay with the raw power of their vaginas. But all in all, a totally hilarious product.

There is so much happening every three seconds of the episode that you might find yourself grappling to figure out what ride this episode is taking you on! But it goes without saying that it is a ride worth the months-long wait.

'Rick and Morty' airs on Sundays at 11.30 pm ET.
