LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Reese Witherspoon has amassed a sizable real estate portfolio over the years, from buying an $18 million mega-mansion in Nashville only months before announcing her divorce to selling homes in some of the most prestigious areas in California. Along with being a skilled actress, Witherspoon, 47, has proven to be a skilled real estate investor as well, by purchasing and reselling a variety of exquisite properties in both her hometown of Nashville as well as in California.

Similar to her character in 'Legally Blonde', the mother of three has a penchant for luxury. She recently purchased four new homes, three in Nashville and one in Brentwood, California, for a reported $28 million, just months before announcing her separation from Jim Toth, her husband of 12 years.

Reese Witherspoon's properties in Nashville

Witherspoon has a special place in her heart for her native place and has invested $18 million in a Nashville mansion, along with $4.2 million in a historic property and $672,000 in a modest suburban home. In addition, she purchased a $5 million Brentwood ranch, a much smaller property than her prior residences there.

Her new $18 million home sits on four acres of land inside a gated community. The 15,000-foot-long property has two structures, a spoon, and a full-size tennis court, according to Love Property. The 'Wild' actress paid $3.7 million for the house in July 2018 but sold it for $7.4 million in October 2022, more than twice as much. The 1930s house required numerous modifications when the couple purchased it.

The actress gave the house a makeover with her Southern charm by painting it white, installing new tile and hardwood floors, and installing new windows to let in lots of natural light. The house boasts a sizable pool with a diving board and a lovely backyard with space for relaxing and hosting events. She eventually sold the house to Randy Wachtler, a music producer.

Reese Witherspoon's properties in California

Witherspoon purchased an $11.9 million home in Los Angeles in 2014. The house has a number of opulent features, including a breakfast nook and a kitchen fit for a gourmet cook. The grand two-story entry opens to a great room with dark wooden beams lining the ceiling and huge windows that let in plenty of natural light. The master bedroom has a fireplace, a "rotunda lounge, lavish spa-like bath and ample closet space and an exclusive balcony". An amazing claw foot tub, a chandelier over it, and a floor-to-ceiling mirror are all elements of the master bathroom.

In November 2022, Witherspoon revealed her plans to Elle Decor, saying she planned to turn her Ojai, California, property into a "meditative and restorative space." "As soon as I drive through the gate, I relax. The air is fresh, the phone isn't ringing, you can't access email. Time slows down," she told the magazine. "Within an hour I'm lying on that couch taking a big fat nap. It's like having a little bit of Tennessee in California." She purchased the property for $4 million in 2006 and sold it for $5 million in 2013.
