SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: Reese Witherspoon is prioritizing her children's well-being amidst her separation from Jim Toth, her talent-agent husband of 12 years. The Oscar winner and Toth announced their divorce last Friday, but sources reveal to PEOPLE that the couple is determined to take care of their family during this difficult time.

According to a source close to the family, "They love Tennessee, and this is their focus. The move from Los Angeles to Nashville was a big deal for him. They don't want the divorce to affect [their son] negatively. They will continue to co-parent amicably. There is no drama." The source adds that Witherspoon and Toth's split is a mutual decision, and the former couple remains on good terms. "They really are the best of friends, and this is such an amicable decision. They are so committed to co-parenting together. They are invested in their whole family and making this as smooth as possible for everyone", the source further added.

Why did the couple divorce?

Witherspoon and her husband announced their decision to end their marriage in a joint statement on Friday, just days before their 12th wedding anniversary on Sunday.  "We have some personal news to share... It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce," they stated. "We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness, and mutual respect for everything we have created together." The couple emphasized their priority to care for their son and family during this difficult time, adding, "These matters are never easy and are extremely personal. We truly appreciate everyone's respect for our family's privacy at this time."

An anonymous insider told Radar Online that the couple's split was due to the actress's busy schedule, stating that 'she hardly ever sees Jim,' while Witherspoon and Toth are parting ways due to the platonic nature of their marriage, according to another insider who spoke with Page Six. The source clarified that there was no scandal or drama involved and that the couple had simply evolved into co-parents who no longer had romantic feelings for each other. The insider explained that, initially, the Academy Award winner, who is now 47, was attracted to Toth's solidity, dependability, and stability, which was a welcome change after experiencing "years of s--t" with her first husband, Ryan Phillippe. "The relative safety and security of Jim were super appealing [in the beginning]," the source shared. Witherspoon, who had been dating the famed talent agent, now 52, for about a year, tied the knot with him in 2011. In an interview with ELLE, Witherspoon shared that she met Toth at a friend's gathering and was charmed by his good character. Witherspoon shares two children, a daughter named Ava (23 years old) and a son named Deacon (19 years old), with her former husband Ryan Phillippe and son, Tennessee with Toth.
