Following an afterparty concert in Tampa, Florida on Saturday, March 7, American rapper-songwriter DaBaby has now apologized to a female fan for striking her in the face.

TMZ posted a video from the Whiskey North nightclub where DaBaby is seen walking through a crowd and a fan is seen holding her cellphone with the flash too close to the rapper's face. He is seen striking the person in the face before quickly walking away.

The 28-year-old 'BOP' singer took to social media shortly after the incident to formally apologize to the fan. Above a still image of the video, DaBaby wrote, “Who know shawty government name so my lawyer can get active?” According to TMZ, he then apologized on Instagram Stories where he said that he didn't know the person who was holding the phone was a woman. He claimed she hit him in the eye with the phone while trying to get close with her phone.

He says, “I do sincerely apologize. I’m very sorry that there was a female on the other end of that flashlight on their phone. But you know, keep in mind, I couldn’t see you because you got the flash this close to me". He continues, "Which is okay, it’s no problem. A lot of people did — they didn’t put it as close as you put it — but a lot of people had flash on me, and that’s okay. That’s what I signed up for.”

DaBaby adds, “But out of all them fans—how many people know how to zoom in? Just zoom in instead of popping me in the motherf**king eye with the phone. But I do apologize that there was a female on the other end. I think by this time, you know it’s a well-known fact that male or female, I would’ve responded the same exact way.”

He then addresses the victim directly: “I would love to apologize to you in person… I would love to make the situation better anyway I can."

According to witnesses at the event who spoke with TMZ, the crowd booed the rapper after the incident and he left the venue without performing a song. At the time of the press, no charges were filed against him.
