Drill rapper 22Gz, who is best known for his singles like ‘Spin’, ‘Loyalty’, and ‘Steppers’ among a few others, was arrested on Sunday, June 12 at John F Kennedy airport. According to reports, the Brooklyn native is facing charges in a crime related to a shooting in March 2022. The 24-year-old rapper was in Atlanta since the alleged crime.
 
Speaking of rappers getting arrested, hip-hop artist Paper Lovee was arrested by Atlanta Police for his alleged involvement in a shooting at a convenience store. Another rapper, SpotemGottem, also came under the radar of the Dallas Police Department in August 2021 for his suspected relation to a murder. Other hip-hop artists such as Polo G, Bandman Kevo, and 9lokkNine too made it to the news for being arrested.

Why was rapper 22Gz arrested?

Credited as the pioneer of the Brooklyn drill scene, 22Gz was arrested on the charges of attempted murder in connection to a shooting in March, as reported by the New York Post. The rapper, whose real name is Jeffrey Mark Alexander, is reportedly facing charges from a morning shooting inside a Marine Park, Brooklyn party hall. A 31-year-old man reportedly suffered injuries in his left foot after getting shot, said the NYPD. A total of three people were injured at the party hall. According to sources, the victim provided a description of the suspect before he was transported to Brookdale University Hospital for treatment. 22Gz was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and first-degree reckless endangerment.
 
According to the New York Post, the young hip-hop artist was arraigned in Brooklyn Supreme Court on Monday night, June 13. His bail was set at $500K which he was expected to post with the help of bondsman to the stars Ira Judelson. Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez spoke to TMZ about the case saying, “This shooting not only wounded the victim but endangered the lives of everyone in a crowded club. Senseless gang rivalries fuel much of the gun violence in our communities and I remain committed to vigorously prosecuting anyone who engages in this criminal conduct." 22Gz, in 2017, was accused of killing a man over a parking spot fight in Miami Beach. Reacting to 22Gz getting arrested, one social media user stated, “When ya music doin good u gotta stay out tha streets.” Another chimed in, “NYC drill rapper try not to kill somebody challenge: impossible.” One user posted, “Didnt he beat a charge like this a few years back. Bro slipped up again.” The next one shared, “He the drill goat if he beat this 2nd murder charge.”
