Having debuted in September 2019, 'Prodigal Son' Season 2 was expected to have dropped in 2020. But knowing that the series managed to barely scrape through the gigantic Fox ax of 2020, fans are just glad the show is returning at all in 2021. Lead actors Tom Payne and Michael Sheen both addressed the commencing of filming thus confirming their return to the show that premiered to rave reviews two years ago. Wondering who else returns and who to expect? Read on to find out.

Tom Payne

The actor plays the role of Malcolm Bright (formerly known as Malcolm Whitly), a disgraced former FBI profiler who now works for the NYPD. He's gifted with the power to view crimes from the perspective of the killer but he is simultaneously struggling with the fear of falling into the same spiral as his sociopathic father.

The English actor is also a familiar face in Hollywood, with his most memorable roles being Paul "Jesus" Rovia in AMC's 'The Walking Dead' and Brett Aspinall in BBC's 'Waterloo Road'.

Michael Sheen

From Aro in the 'Twilight Saga' to Aziraphale in 'Good Omens', Sheen's expertise in the supernatural genre is incredible. With his 'Prodigal Son' role, however, he dabbles more into the territory of sociopath killer, as he plays Dr Martin Whitly, Malcolm's father who is currently behind bars in an asylum after committing 23 murders as "The Surgeon".

Bellamy Young

Best known for her role as Melody "Mellie" Grant in the ABC drama 'Scandal', Young won the Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for that character. As Jessica Whitley in the FOX drama, Young plays Malcolm's mother and a successful businesswoman from an old-money high society family. Jessica spiraled after her husband's devious crimes were outed and now suffers from alcoholism, as a result of her drinking to cope with them.

Halston Sage

Malcolm's ambitious younger sister is a TV news reporter called Ainsley Whitley and who better to play the role than Sage. Known for her appearances in young adult thrillers like 'Before I Fall' and 'You Get Me', Sage has also starred in the movie adaptation of the John Green book 'Paper Towns' as Lacey.

Lou Diamond Phillips

As Gil Arroyo, a lieutenant with Major Crimes in the NYPD, Phillips is pretty unmissable in the FOX drama. Gil is described as the arresting officer of Martin. Growing up, Malcolm found a surrogate father in Gil, and once he is fired from the FBI, Gil hires Malcolm as his new consultant.

Phillips' most notable film performances include 'Stand and Deliver' (1988), 'Young Guns' (1988), 'Young Guns II' (1990), 'Courage Under Fire' (1996), 'The Big Hit' (1998), 'Brokedown Palace' (1999), 'Che' (2008), and 'The 33' (2015).

'Prodigal Son' Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, January 12, on FOX.
