Dutch DJ Martin Garrix and Swedish singer Tove Lo are teaming up for a new song. It's been a long eight-month wait for fans as they hoped for new music from Martin Garrix, who had released another collaboration with a Swedish artist - John Martin - titled 'Higher Ground'  in May last year.

In the last half-year, Garrix released only two songs but under Ytram alias and even they became popular but received less traction compared to when he uses the name Martin Garrix to market them.

Now, his first single for 2021, titled 'Pressure' is just around the corner, so here's all you need to know before it drops.

Release date

To give you time to add it to your weekend playlists, 'Pressure' arrives on Friday, February 5.

How to listen

You can stream the new song on Spotify. Pre-saves are available here.

Concept

While there are no preview cuts for the upcoming track, the 'Animals' producer is known for his high-octane big room sound and Tove Lo's music blends a variety of pop such as electropop, synthpop, indie pop and more so 'Pressure' will make for an epic collaboration. If we're going by the song's title and the tone expressed in the artwork in a new teaser, 'Pressure' will adopt a dark theme bordering on eeriness. In the artwork, a girl is seen sitting in a dimly lit room looking at herself in the mirror with piercing red-glowing eyes. Hopefully, the new song will get an accompanying music video to pair with the atmosphere of the track.

Additionally, if Garrix keeps the success of his 2020 singles, 'Pressure' is set to be a new fan-favorite. 'Higher Ground' impacted charts in several countries including Sweden, Belgium, Hungary, Netherlands and the US where it took the No. 11 spot on Billboard's 'US Hot Dance/Electronic Songs' chart. The same can be said for 'Drown' (featuring Clinton Kane and released in February 2020), which peaked at No. 12 on the weekly version of the same Billboard chart.

It's also refreshing to see new music coming under the Martin Garrix name, as the DJ has released several songs in the past six months under his Ytram alias, namely, 'Make You Mine', 'Fire', and 'Alive'.

Fan reactions

Fans of both collaborators have been quick to share their excitement on Twitter for 'Pressure'. "Tove lo underrated legend," said a fan while another wrote, "Tove lo queen of dark pop." "I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED, LET'S GO," tweeted a fan in all caps.

One fan is already predicting it will be a "masterpiece,", saying, "Wow! Finaly, a New master peace of 2021 by Martin Garrix. I'm So excited i can't wait to see what you Come UP with Martijn. Team." Another fan shared, "I've been waiting a loooong time. The king is back. Your music makes me feel happy and optimistic."
