Spoilers for 'Pokemon Journeys: The Series' Part 2

The Pokemon television series has incorporated a lot of elements from their games and provided storied explanations for why things the way they are. Familiar game mechanics are given a more thorough explanation of the series, adding another layer of mythos to the many different games in the Pokemon franchise. 'Pokemon Journeys: The Series' has had some treats for those of the 'Pokemon Go' generation, and in one of its episodes, provides an explanation for just why walking with eggs helps it hatch, as opposed to warming it up.

Eggs are a bit of a mystery in the Pokemon universe. No Pokemon seems able to actually lay one, or has been seen laying one. In 'Pokemon Go', eggs that might look the same may hatch entirely different Pokemon. The mystery is explored a little more in 'Caring for a Mystery!', where it is established that Professor Cerise (Ray Chase) is one of the world's foremost experts in Pokemon eggs.

It should be noted that the eggs featured on the show are closer to the simple, spotted variety as seen in 'Pokemon Go' as opposed to the more colorful and characterized Pokemon eggs that have been seen through the history of the game. Previous games have required players to do various things in order to hatch the eggs, including hitting the eggs, warming it with fire, and guessing the Pokemon waiting to be hatched inside it. In 'Pokemon Go', however, eggs are earned through gifts or visiting Pokestops, and when placed in an egg incubator, they hatch after the player has walked a certain number of miles while playing the game - the rarity of the Pokemon hatched corresponding with the number of miles needed to unlock the egg.

In the episode, after Ash Ketchum (Sarah Natochenny) is given an egg to take care of, Professor Cerise reveals that eggs are more likely to hatch in the presence of active, energetic Pokemon - and as such, trainers tend to carry their eggs with them while out adventuring. Keep the egg around more active Pokemon that walk outside of their Pokeballs with a trainer to help inspire the Pokemon inside the eggs to come out, and as such, the more time spent walking with an egg, the more it is likely to hatch.

All episodes of 'Pokemon Journeys: The Series' are now available to stream on Netflix.
