As a part of its 'Ripped from the Headlines' feature, Lifetime is bringing the chilling story of Stacey Castor, whose husband was found dead in an apparent suicide.

However, when the police suspected foul play and dug deeper into the matter, they discovered that Stacey was not exactly a victim of tough love but rather a vicious attacker. 

Several years ago, 'Forensic Files' told the horrifically surprising tale of Stacey Castor story in an episode titled 'Freeze Framed'. In Lifetime's new movie, Nia Vardalos will be essaying the role of Stacey, or "The Black Widow" as she was subsequently named by media outlets.

Release date

'Poisoned Love: The Stacey Castor Story' premieres on February 1 at 8/ 7c on Lifetime Movies Network. 

Plot

Stacey Castor (played by Nia Vardalos) weathered the storm of her first husband's death and managed to find love again with her boss, David (Mike Dopud). But when David is discovered dead of an apparent suicide, the police suspect some foul play, as David's death mimics that of Stacey's first husband.

As the evidence begins to fall into place, a suicide attempt by her daughter Ashley (Chanelle Peloso) further complicates the investigation. Was Stacey a victim of tragic circumstances or a "Black Widow" out for the attack?

Vardalos will be playing the role of the Stacey Castor in the Lifetime movie. The actress is best known for her work in 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding', that she dramatized and starred in.

She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her work on 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding'. 

Mike Dopud as David

As David, Mike Dopud will be playing the role of Stacey's second victim to die the slow, agonizing death caused by antifreeze. It is his murder that eventually leads to investigators to catch hold of Stacey Castor.

The actor and stuntman is best known for playing Detective Smits in 'White Noise' and Vic Hadfield in 'Canada Russia '72'. He is also known for playing the role of Jason Micic on 'Power'. For his work in 'Walking Tall', Dopud was nominated for a Taurus World Stunt Award in 2005.

Creators 

The Lifetime movie is written by Peter Hunziker, Cynthia Riddle and Michael Vickerman, and directed by Jim Donovan, who is known for 'Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey' starring Katie Douglas, Rossif Sutherland and David James Elliot, which also premiered on Lifetime.

A 'Ripped from the Headlines' feature by Lifetime, 'Poisoned by Love: The Stacey Castor Story' follows the true story of Stacey Castor, who was found guilty of poisoning her then-husband David Castor with antifreeze.

She then attempted the murder of her daughter Ashley Wallace with crushed pills mixed in with vodka, orange juice and Sprite.
