'Thank you for always making my days brighter': PewDiePie pens message as his 17-yr-old pet pug dies
TOKYO, JAPAN: YouTube star PewDiePie informed his fans about the death of his beloved 17-year-old elderly pug, Maya, on Sunday, December 18. PewDiePie wrote on his official Instagram account along with a picture of Maya, “Said farewell to my little Maya this morning.. 17 years is a long time for a pug, but no time in the world would've ever been enough..I didn't think I could love a dog as much as I loved her..”
“Thank you for all the wonderful time we got to spend with you. Thank you for always making my days brighter. Thank you for bringing me closer to Marzia. I will miss you so much and I already do... you will always be in my heart Maya,” he remarked. PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, and his wife Marzia had two pugs, Maya and Edgar. Earlier in 2022, the pair moved to Japan from the UK with their pugs. At that time, according to the YouTube star, even though both dogs arrived at their destination safely, Maya started to face health problems.

In a vlog, PewDiePie discussed her health and revealed that the nearly 17-year-old pug had dementia. “We’ll see how she develops. But Maya has ‘dementia.’ She’s so old. Her mind is kinda declining a bit. Sorry, I’m saying it in front of everyone,” he remarked while showing his pug to the audience. Canine dementia is a cognitive illness in dogs that has symptoms comparable to Alzheimer's in humans, according to the East Bay Veterinary Clinic.
PewDiePie stated on his vlog that Maya frequently becomes pissed off and mad at particular times of the day. The symptoms of dementia also included anxiety, forgetfulness, forgetting routines, not knowing their name and high irritability. Several of PewDiePie's fans mourned Maya's death as many commented on the YouTuber post with heartfelt notes.
One person wrote, “I’ll always remember you Maya. Even though you were such a little dog you made a big impact. We’ll miss you.” “Not seeing her in your videos will be strange. She’ll be missed,” another added. “So sorry to hear this, this sucks. Her presence in your videos was a huge part of my childhood. Rest in peace to the legend and my condolences,” yet another user remarked.
