The long reign of Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg, better known as PewDiePie, as the most-subscribed YouTube channel run by an individual has finally come to an end, almost after a decade since 2013. On November 14, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, overtook PewDiePie’s subscriber count with a total of 111,851,893 on his channel.

Prior to the accomplishment, MrBeast, who started his YouTube journey in 2012, tweeted on November 12 along with a screenshot that showed his current subscriber count. He wrote, "WHAT ARE THE ODDS I RANDOMLY OPEN YOUTUBE TO 111,111,111 SUBSCRIBERS AT EXACTLY 11:11 ON NOVEMBER 11th???" In a follow-up tweet, he added while showing a bunch of tickets for the "North Carolina PowerBall" lottery, "I just bought 1,111 lottery tickets, something is telling me I’ll win."

Following the takeover, fans started comparing the journey and argued on who still remains the best. One wrote, "I think pewdiepie is more impressive just cuz he really did it mostly solo while mr beast is basically a company now." One more commented, "PewDiePie has been the most Subscribed-to individual on YouTube for 3,378 days straight. 9 years. 2 months. 30 days. He did all this by sitting at his desk, making gaming videos, and being himself. MrBeast passing him up is incredible because... he started the SAME way." Another said, "Both are awesome people. PewDiePie is clearly the better content creator and funnier and more wholesome guy. Love pewds." While a user tweeted by saying, "People need to stop arguing over who’s better between pewdiepie and mr beast, both are amazing and Pewdiepie also made a video regarding it, he genuinely hoped Mr beast would be the one to pass him and stated that he (Mrbeast) deserves it the most."

One of many remembered the videos by PewDiePie and expressed, "An era is over & a new one has come. MrBeast has passed Pewdiepie for most subscribed individual on YouTube. My childhood was all about Pewdiepie & have watched him still to this day, since I was like 15. I'm turning 26 this year & seeing him lose the top spot finally, is insane." On the other hand, many continued to congratulate MrBeast. A fan wrote, "Kinda crazy to think PewDiePie is no longer the 'King' of YouTube in subs anymore (MrBeast overtook him today.) End of an era for sure. Congratulations to @MrBeast for being awesome!"
