'Such a disgusting commercial': Super Bowl LVIII fans fume over Servant Foundation's 'foot washing' ad
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Super Bowl LVIII fans witnessed an out-of-the-box advertisement that caught the ire of viewers on social media. During the first quarter of the Football championship, a commercial titled 'Foot Washing' aired featuring multiple still images of people, including a woman outside a family planning clinic, having their feet washed.
The 'He Gets Us' advertisement was a religious campaign funded by the Servant Foundation, a non-profit organization founded in 2000. The one-minute Super Bowl LVIII commercial started with seemingly AI-generated pictures of people washing another person's feet.
The ad was set on the song 'Never Tear Us Apart' by INXS. The commercial wrapped up with a slogan reading, 'Jesus didn't teach hate. He washed feet.' The ad company also shared the commercial clip on its social media and noted, "Jesus washed the feet of friends and enemies. No ego or hate. He humbly loved his neighbors. How can we do the same?"
However, the viewers took to Twitter to share their outrage about the 'disgusting' Super Bowl commercial. A social media user tweeted, "Why you had to buy ad space during the #SuperBowl shows how far you’ve fallen. It also shows how wealthy you all are. Tax the churches."
Another person added, "I don’t know who’s behind these “Jesus gets us” ads but whoever it is if they think a 15 second commercial about feet and poverty is gonna make me think there’s a man in the clouds, he don’t get me." Another internet user penned, "Such a disgusting commercial."
Another critic noted, "Jesus would take the millions of dollars you’re spending on #SuperBowl ads and actually help people in need. You’re a bunch of hypocrites." Another viewer wrote, "Idk if any #SuperBowl commercial I liked. The Jesus feet washing freaked me out though."
"What would Jesus do? He would ask His followers to spend that #SuperBowl $7M ad instead to feed the poor and the hungry," another furious X user penned.
Another critic said, "Bruh these commercials tho I feel like the world wants us all to be "no disrespect" retarted. Jesus washed feet lmfao I feel more stupid by the day listening and watching this generation move."

What is Super Bowl LVIII's 'He Gets Us' commercial about?
The 'He Gets Us' ad campaign is a movement not "affiliated with any single individual, political position, church, or faith denomination," according to its official website.
The ad campaign's spokesperson Jason Vanderground recently reflected on the commercial and noted in an interview with Associate Press, "We’re trying to get the message across to people who are spiritually open, but skeptical."
Just a day before Super Bowl LVIII, the 'He Gets Us' campaign held a day of service at a Las Vegas community center. Multiple current and former NFL players distributed groceries and hot meals during the social service while the athletes led kids in football drills and games.

Billionaire David Green funds Super Bowl LVIII's 'He Gets Us' commercial
The 'He Gets Us' commercial, which was aired during Super Bowl LVIII, was funded by the 119th-richest person in the world, David Green. The Jesus advertisement was funded by David for the second year in a row, helping to run a pair of Super Bowl ads in commercial time worth millions of dollars meant to promote "loving your neighbor like Jesus did".
The original 'He Gets Us' Super Bowl ad spots, which ran in 2023, encouraged viewers to 'love your enemies'. However, the spokesperson for the campaign, Greg Miller, shared with Rolling Stone, that the latest campaign emphasized "loving our neighbors like Jesus did, encouraging people to respect and serve each other."
The commercials were aired during the most expensive ad spots in the world during the year's most-watched American sporting event.
