Who is the mystery man supporting John Salt?

At the end of the episode, we see the council voting to make John Salt the leader of the union. Every council member comes in support of Harwood’s Deputy and unanimously chooses him as the new leader. The reason why his appearance has shocked everyone is that he was killed by Alfred during Season One of the highly-popular series.

How was Arthur killed?

In the final episode of Season One, Alfred manages to rescue Queen from Bet Sykes (Paloma Faith). With the Queen safe, Lord Harwood is at the mercy of the British government. As a result, the Raven Society surrenders, and Harwood is taken into custody. After the union’s defeat, Harwood reveals that he still has an upper hand and initiates the use of ‘The Old Guard’. Surprisingly, the Old Guard is Alfred's father. Arthur has been a member of the union for quite a while, but never indulges in violence.

However, Arthur religiously devotes himself to society and plans to use a bomb against the Queen and some of the government’s highest-working officials. Alfred tries to stop him, but Arthur never backs down.  Alfred ends up shooting him, killing him before the explosives detonate.

How did Arthur survive the bomb detonation?

Arthur’s condition is clearly worsening and we can see that with the way he comes out to meet the council members in the latest episode. His face is burnt and is now unable to walks as he takes the assistance of a wheelchair to take part in the voting process. But, the biggest question that needs to be answered is how did he manage to survive the blast?  It seems he managed to sneak out of the venue or maybe, someone from the Raven Society came in and saved Arthur from the blast.

It will be interesting to see Arthur’s role in the final episodes of the series. Alfred and his mother, Mary, do not know about Arthur’s survival and would surely come as a shock when they see him alive.

Season Two is undoubtedly getting more and more intense as it approaches its conclusion.

‘Pennyworth’ returns to EPIX with a new episode on Monday at 9 pm ET.
