Spoilers for 'Pennyworth' Season 2 Episode 4: 'The Hunted Fox'

It wasn't the mid-season finale that a lot of fans would have had in mind. There was quite a bit of drama with Alfred (Jack Bannon) struggling with personal tragedy as the death of his friend and comrade, Bazza (Hainsley Lloyd Bennett). There was some steamy romance between Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and Martha Kane (Emma Paetz), while there was a reunion between the Sykes sisters, Bet (Paloma Faith) and Peggy (Polly Walker)

However, the big reveal was Lucius Fox (Simon Manyonda) introduced in the final minutes of the episode. Colonel Salt (Edward Hogg) is all set to demonstrate the devastating effects of project Stormcloud and Fox is shown as one of the scientists working at the Raven Union HQ. That though seems to be an ideal cover, as it is revealed that he is indeed a spy documenting all the happenings at the HQ. Whether he is working for the English League or the CIA is still a question that needs to be answered.

What we can clearly say is that Fox might not be actually working for the bad guys, as we thought he was when 'Pennyworth' showed him as part of the trailer in the New York Comic-Con earlier on. While we do know that Fox eventually joins Wayne Enterprises, the journey is yet to be explained. Morgan Freeman played the character in Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight Trilogy' and was also seen to have a good relationship with Alfred and Bruce Wayne's father.

Now that we know the future of the character, it is interesting to see how creators, Danny Cannon and Bruno Heller have shaped Fox's persona. In addition, he was played by Brock Peters in 'Batman: The Animated Series', while Chris Chalk played him in the television series 'Gotham'. Created by Len Wein and John Calnan, Lucius Fox first appeared in Batman #307 (January 1979). The continuity of Fox's family tree was shown in The CW's 'Batwoman' with his son Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson).

'Pennyworth' Season 2 will return in 2021.
