One of the storylines in 'The Heavy Crown' was Thomas Wayne (Ben Aldridge) and Martha Kane's (Emma Paetz) reunion. Last we saw, the duo was sharing a romantic moment before Thomas was shot by an assailant from the Raven Union. The season opener was supposed to pick up from where it left off between the two characters, except there was a twist in the tale as Thomas tells he is engaged to a Betsy Van Wick just as Martha was about to kiss him.

Not just was it sting for Martha, but for fans who had no idea where Betsy Van Wick popped up from. Not much is known about the character, however, Aldridge was able to shed light on the enigmatic name-dropped Van Wick. "I suspect that she is someone with lots of money, a society gal, east coast probably, and pretty much from the social circle as Thomas," he explained. "And maybe somebody he's known since childhood I think he's facing a lot of pressure from his parents, him being the heir of an empire to marry someone appropriate."

"I think that has just been kind of an easy decision that Betsy's probably pretty cool, she's fine ticks off a lot of the boxes maybe, but I think he doesn't realize how much he misses Martha or craves the connection he and Martha have... their mind, their intelligence, they can fight you know and they can also laugh together as well."

At the moment, IMDb has no mention of the character or the name of the actor playing the part. In all probability, this might mean the character might tend to be a name drop after all. Despite the shock, the DC world has seen Thomas and Martha as a couple who would wed and eventually go on to give birth to Bruce Wayne, who we might probably see by the end of the season. The series already confirmed that Martha would be pregnant and this would mark a major development in the series.
