'Penguin': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about the Amazon Prime thriller
The Indian film industry has been churning out some amazing content surrounding troubled mothers and their plight when their child's safety has been compromised and adding to the slate is the upcoming Amazon Prime Video original 'Penguin'. Being shot simultaneously in two Indian vernacular languages, Tamil, and Telegu, the thriller from a debutant director looks quite promising for a lazy June watch as the world embraces to once again ease into the hustle and bustle of a post-lockdown life. Here's all you need to know about it:
Release date
'Penguin' will be available to stream globally from the midnight of June 19 on Prime Video.
Plot
According to the official synopsis of the movie, the plot revolves around the kidnapping of a child and soon turns into a story following the struggles and agony of the child's distraught mother. Keerthy, who won the National Award for her role in 'Mahanati', will be playing the role of a mother.
Creator
'Penguin' has been directed by Eashvar Karthic, and this is his debut venture.
Cast
Keerthy Suresh plays the role of the distraught mother, Rhythm. Speaking at a press release about playing the role, she said: "Penguin has definitely been one of the most exciting and interesting projects I’ve worked on. As a mother, Rhythm is both gentle and caring, but also fiercely determined. She’s complex but authentic, and I think that will really strike a chord with audiences. I had a wonderful time working with the incredibly talented Eashvar Karthic to bring the story to life.”
Linga, Madhampatty Rangaraj, and Adwaidh also star.
Trailer
Giving all the 'American Horror Story', 'Stranger Things', 'Dark', and even some disturbing 'It' vibes, the trailer for 'Penguin' is a treat to behold as we see Rhythm's son Ajay disappear into the woods nearby and the harder the cops are suggesting the child is dead, the harder Rhythm insists nothing happened to him. Laden with ominous signs, symbols, and just the right essence of vendetta to make one think the whole debacle isn't supernatural, Penguin's trailer is a must-watch. Check it out here:
