Peacock's 'Queer as Folk': Jesse James Keitel is the first non-binary actor to play series regular
Peacock is set to take viewers on an entertaining ride with the upcoming series based on the LGBTQ+ community, ‘Queer as Folk’. The series is a reboot of the classic 2000 series of the same name that stunned the world with its boldness and unique content.
The Peacock series revolves around a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy. Now, they have to cope with the situation and find ways to get out of that. Apart from having an interesting premise, the show also features a stellar young cast that will keep you entertained. Let’s take a look at the cast.
Jesse James Keitel as Ruthie
The multi-talented artist began her career in her teenage years with the short film ‘Miller & Son,’ which went on to win the BAFTA Student Film Award and Gold Medal for Best Narrative at the 2019 Student Academy Awards. Meanwhile, she made her tv debut in 2016 playing a closeted gay teen in ‘What Would You Do?’
However, her moment of glory came in 2019 when she got the chance to play the role of Jerrie Kennedy in the acclaimed series ‘Big Sky’. She entered history books by becoming the first non-binary actor to play a non-binary series regular on primetime television. She is an openly non-binary actor and uses she/her pronouns.
As far as her dating life is concerned, Jesse is in a relationship with her boyfriend AJ Lebenns. The couple got engaged in December 2019 and completed 10 years of their relationship in July 2020.
Fin Argus as Mingus
The openly gay artist, who uses they/them as pronouns, began their career as a model and modeled the Yves Saint Laurent 2016 Spring/Summer for Barneys New York. Although they started acting professionally in 2011, Argus featured in several theatre productions when they were really young and was a member of the Kidz Bop.
After making appearances in numerous short films, Argus got a chance to play a small role in the 2018 movie ‘Summer ‘03’. However, their first major acting role came in 2020 with the Disney+ movie ‘Clouds.'
As of now, there is no information about who Argus is dating. However, reports suggest that they were allegedly dating Claudia Sulewski. The rumored couple took a trip to Bora Bora together. Claudia has deleted all the photos she had with Fin on Instagram.
Candace Grace as Shar
Candace Grace is an American actress who made her acting debut by doing several stage shows. She has a Master’s degree in Theater from Mason Gross School of the Arts. ‘Queer as Folk’ will be Grace’s first TV series as an actor. It has also been announced that Grace will be playing the lead role in the ABC series 'Acts of Crime’.
Johnny Sibilly as Noah
Johnny Sibilly is an actor of Cuban and Dominican descent who always wanted to be an actor and started preparing for it when he was young. Sibilly started his Television career in 2013 with a cameo appearance in ‘Deadly Affairs’. Meanwhile, he played the role of a Drag Queen in ‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’ in 2014. His first major acting role came in 2021 when he was announced as a recurring guest star on the HBO series ‘Hacks’.
Apart from being an actor, the Queer man is also an activist and supporter of Latin-American and LGBTQ+ rights. Sibilly’s relationship status is unknown, but his Instagram posts suggest that he was in a relationship with Will Moroski.
Ryan O’Connell as Julian
Ryan is one of the prominent names in the media industry today. He began his career as a writer and wrote pieces for VICE, BuzzFeed, The New York Times, and Medium. He has a mild form of cerebral palsy since birth, which affects the right side of his body with a noticeable limp. The writer remained closeted until he was 17 and when he came out, his family was supportive. Interestingly, his sister, uncle, and grandfather have already identified as LGBTQ.
O’Connell started writing a TV series titled ‘Special’ and faced a lot of challenges while getting produced because it was based on people with disabilities and O’Connell wanted actors with a disability to play characters. The series premiered on Netflix and received four Emmy nominations at the 71st Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards.
O'Connell has been dating Jonathan Parks-Ramage since 2015. They met at Grimes' birthday party in Los Angeles.
Devin Way as Brodie
His career started off in a pretty unusual way after his friend’s mother entered him in the 2012 Kim Dawson Model Search. Way was a cheerleader in Texas and started pursuing modeling in Dallas. During his time as a model, he worked for brands such as Guess Jeans, Coca Cola, Wrangler, and Abercrombie & Finch. He later turned his sight to acting and made his debut with ‘Grey’s Anatomy’.
'Queer as Folk' will be premiering exclusively on Peacock on June 9.
