MALIBU, CALIFORNIA: After nearly 30 years, Nick Nolte has finally addressed the alleged behind-the-scenes drama he had with Julia Roberts on the sets of their 1994 film 'I Love Trouble'. “It was absurd what we went through,” Nolte said to Insider while promoting his new drama 'Rittenhouse Square.'

In an interview with The New York Times in December 1993, when the filming for the romantic-comedy film was only halfway complete, Roberts described Nolte as "completely disgusting." She also accused Nolte of displaying unpleasant behavior during production. “From the moment I met him we sort of gave each other a hard time, and naturally we get on each other’s nerves,” she said when asked about her co-star's demeanor during the shoot.

"[While he can be] completely charming and very nice, he's also completely disgusting. He's going to hate me for saying this, but he seems to go out of his way to repel people. He's a kick," she continued. Nolte reportedly followed up in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, saying, "It’s not nice to call someone ‘disgusting.’ But she’s not a nice person. Everyone knows that."

Now, after nearly three decades, the three-time Oscar-nominated actor recalled his alleged beef with Roberts to Insider once again during promotions of his 2022 film. It appears that Nolte does not hold a grudge against the 'Pretty Woman' actress but also did not reach out to her after the filming was wrapped up. “No, I haven’t. Though it’s buried,” he said in response.

"I mean, it was absurd what we went through. It was partly my fault and a little bit of hers. Julia got married at the beginning of that film and it was one of those things where I just approached it all wrong," he continued. Nolte was referencing Roberts’ 1993 marriage to musician Lyle Lovett, which ended in divorce in 1995.

Their 1994 flick 'I Love Trouble' did not score huge numbers at the box office and mostly received press because of the rumors of drama between the two lead actors. The film finds Roberts and Nolte playing the characters of Sabrina Peterson and Peter Brackett, respectively, who are two rival newspapers reporters in Chicago. While Sabrina is young and passionate, Peter is a star in decline who published his first novel recently. The pair later join forces to investigate a case that leads to them discovering an unexpected conspiracy.
