Oscars 2021: Academy 'did Chadwick Boseman dirty', say fans as Anthony Hopkins wins Best Actor for 'The Father'
With names like Riz Ahmed ('Sound of Metal'), Chadwick Boseman ('Ma Rainey's Black Bottom'), Anthony Hopkins ('The Father'), Gary Oldman ('Mank') and Steven Yeun ('Minari') in the running for the coveted 'Best Actor in Leading Role' award during the 93rd Academy Awards, it was anybody's guess who would finally take home the trophy.
The Academy definitely had a very tough decision to make, considering all the nominees are exceptionally talented and displayed their incredible acting mettle in their performances. But finally Anthony Hopkins was awarded the 'Best Actor in Leading Role' for his performance in 'The Father'.

When fans heard Anthony Kopkins won the Academy Award for the Best Actor in Leading Role, they were far from pleased. While all fans paid their due respect to Hopkins' talent and his impeccable acting range, they, however, felt that late Chadwick Boseman should have been given the award. Considering this would be 'Black Panther' star's last opportunity to be presented with the prestigious award, fans were upset that the Academy didn't name him as the winner.
A fan tweeted, "This extended #Oscars season has been quite exhausting and demanding, and the anti-climatic note of exploiting Chadwick's win only to see him lose was appalling. The winners were overall great, but this was a woefully misguided and poorly produced ceremony." Another fan wrote, "This was Chadwick Boseman's last chance to ever win an Oscar too. Fuck the Oscars. And I was actually enjoying it for the most part this year too until the ending. "

Another angry fan commented, "So suddenly they decide to put lead actor last not best picture knowing full well people will be thinking Chadwick will win, as deserved, to then rob him of his Oscar and end on someone who was not even there or giving a speech, so disrespectful, bullshit! #Oscars #Oscars2021."

Few fans however pointed out that Chadwick would always be a winner in their hearts irrespective of Academy's decision. A fan shared, "I know some people are upset that Chadwick Boseman didn’t win, but it’s just an award. The man’s legacy will never be about this one award. He inspired so many people. Thank you Chadwick. We love you and we miss you. Chadwick Forever. #Oscars #inmemoriam #ChadwickBoseman." "Chadwick Boseman already had the greatest award of all. Our hearts and admiration. I can’t believe The Academy did him dirty. He will never be forgotten. #Oscars," seconded a fan.
