Who is M Lamar? 'OITNB' star Laverne Cox thanks twin brother for emotional support
‘Orange is the New Black’ star Laverne Cox has shared her struggle with the difficulties that come with being a transgender and being in Hollywood, saying she is grateful to have kept a strong relationship through the times with her brother M Lamar, who also identifies as a member of the LGBTQ community.
Lamar, who is a musician, has even worked with Cox in the ‘Orange is the new Black’ series. In scenes that show Cox before her transition, Lamar portrays the said character. After the show, apart from being nominated for Primetime Emmy and such awards, Cox went on to become the first transgender person to be on the cover of Cosmopolitan and the first to be a transgender series regular on US broadcast TV.

"I love my brother so much ... in so many ways, he's been my moral compass over the years. Like, I run things by him and he's ... we're twins, so we've literally known each other our entire lives," said Cox, according to The List, quoting Indiewire. “There's a wonderful bond that we share, and there's a tremendous amount of respect that we have for each other as artists and as human beings. So I'm really grateful that I got to share a little bit of this show and this moment with him," she added.
Who is M Lamar?
M Lamar is a “composer who works across opera, metal, performance, video, sculpture and installation to craft sprawling narratives of radical becoming,” based on his official website. His work has been displayed at places such as the Wellcome Collection London, The Cloisters at The Metropolitan Museum Of Art, and more.
Laverne and Lamar are identical twins. They were raised by their mother and grandmother in Alabama. Interestingly, on July 25's episode of the reality show 'Claim to Fame', contestant X who was eliminated was later revealed to be Lamar.
In the episode, Lark was demoted to being the guesser after she lost her challenge. The majority votes mandated her to guess the identity of a celebrity housemate taking part in the show. While most house members were sure that Lark would out Brittany, in a surprise move, she decided to leak X's identity, while also saving herself from elimination after guessing it correctly.
While some contestants have already revealed their identities on the show, all of them are hiding their relatives from each other. Before the premiere of this season's 'Claim to Fame on July 11, promotion videos promised relatives of Zendaya, Simone Biles, Whoopi Goldberg, and Chuck Norris will be part of the show.
