Who is Laverne Cox dating? 'OITNB' star honored with first transgender Barbie before birthday
Laverne Cox has achieved a lot in her life. As Cox has admitted, being a Black trans person doesn't come easy because of the stigma attached to it. Regardless, she has beat many odds to get where she is, so much so that she became the first transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category. And now, Mattel announced that they would be releasing a Barbie doll made in the likeness of Cox.
This is another huge feat that the 'Orange is the New Black' actress has achieved. The actor, producer, reality personality, and LGBTQ activist was also elated about being honored with doll. She said, "It's been a dream to work with Barbie to create my own doll for years. I can't wait for fans to find my doll on shelves and have the opportunity to add a Barbie doll modeled after a transgender person to their collection." Cox shared her pride with People saying that Barbie can show kids “there’s hope and possibility for them to be themselves.”

Where to buy and cost of the Laverne Cox Barbie?
Mattel explained that the doll fit very closely to Cox's style as it features a deep oxblood red tulle gown, heeled boots, silver earrings, and silver metallic bodysuits. Lisa McKnight, executive vice president and global head of Barbie and Dolls at Mattel shared her sentiments in a statement. She said, "We are proud to highlight the importance of inclusion and acceptance at every age and to recognize Laverne’s significant impact on culture with a Tribute Collection Barbie." The special edition Barbie became available on Amazon starting May 25, Tuesday. It is also available on Walmart and Target MattelCreations.com for $39.99."
The Tribute Series Barbie was made ahead of the actress' 50th birthday. The toy company is also donating to charity TransFamilySOS in Cox’s name. The LGBTQIA+ advocate revealed she was “very involved” in the process of creating her very own doll. The Laverne Cox Barbie has a sassy secret bonus outfit, too. Cox got the idea to have “one outfit that could peel off and become multiple outfits,” so they created a glittery silver catsuit with attached boots that Barbie wears underneath her red frock. “She gives you a catsuit fantasy, honey,” she told E! News. “Transgender Barbie is in effect. She’s giving you looks. She’s giving you everything.”
Laverne has been an active part of the community and one can only be intrigued by her. Her personal life has always been on the hush-hush. So, who is she dating?
Who is Laverne Cox's boyfriend?
During her interview with The View back in February 2022, she revealed that she was indeed seeing someone and was mesmerized by the reunion. While she did not reveal the name of her boyfriend. She explained that being a Black trans person in the world of dating is pretty confusing and why the world doesn't know about her boyfriend. She said, "It’s really odd. We had a talk because I’m trying to keep him out of the spotlight. Yes, he is technically 22 years my junior, but that hasn’t been an issue. It’s hard to find someone with whom you truly connect. Getting love is hard. I’m a 48-year-old Black trans woman who found love again, and it’s a miracle. I’m so thrilled that God has brought this man into my life.” Laverne was previously dating Kyle Draper, the CEO of a record label. The relationship went on for two years and they ended it amicably, as friends.
Laverne was born on May 29, 1972, in Mobile, Alabama. She was raised by a single mother and has an identical twin brother, M Lamar, who portrayed pre-transitioned Sophia (Marcus) in 'Orange is the New Black'. Apart from being nominated for Primetime Emmy and such, she went on to become the first transgender person to be on the cover of Cosmopolitan, and the first to be a transgender series regular on US broadcast TV.
The move by Mattel was appreciated by many people on social media despite the fair share of critics and trolls. One said: "Oh how gorgeous!!! So happy for Laverne and trans women that seem themselves in this Barbie and feel represented!!" Another social media describing her happiness, shared their story, "This makes me so happy; I remember when I was little my dad didn’t want me and my sister to have barbies bc he didn’t want us to think women were only skinny, white and blonde and that was the only right thing to be to have this now is wonderful and so is laverne."
