'Only Murders in the Building': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short comedy

Hulu announced a slew of shows and renewals at the Hulu Press Tour on August 7 which included the return of singer-actor Selena Gomez back to television with the comedy 'Only Murders in the Building'. According to the official statement, "Hulu adds major star power with the addition of Selena Gomez as star and executive producer of upcoming 'Only Murders In The Building'."

Release date: 

The show is expected to release sometime in 2021, however, there has been no official confirmation regarding the same as of now. 

Plot: 

The show is a comedy which is about people who are intrigued with true crime stories and would probably be the first ones to binge on documentaries and things. The official plotline is, "The series follows three strangers (Martin, Short and Gomez) who share an obsession with true crime and suddenly find themselves wrapped up in one."

Speaking about the plot, Hulu’s head of originals, Craig Erwich, told Deadline, "I heard the pitch on Wednesday, and it was the best hour I had all week." He added, "It’s really special, surprisingly emotional. It’s really modern and self-referential about podcasts and murders, it’s got some great surprises. When they pull this off, it’s going to be really special."

Selena Gomez

With 'Only Murders In The Building', Gomez returns to television after initially rising to fame with her role as Alex Russo in Disney Channel's 'Wizards of Waverly Place'. The 'Rare' singer and actor, apart from being a part of films such as 'The Big Short' and most recently 'Dead Don't Die' opposite Adam Driver and Bill Murray, is also the executive producer of the Netflix show '13 Reasons Why' and docu-series 'Living Undocumented'.

Martin Short, a comedian, writer, actor and musician, is credited with having revived 'Saturday Night Live' Season 10 in 1984-85 after popularity dipped with Eddie Murphy's exit. He rose to fame by playing many characters in the season. Some of his popular movies include 'Three Amigos', 'Innerspace', 'Three Fugitives', and 'Father of the Bride'.

Martin, a legend among comedians is also the executive producer and co-creator of the show. He is a man of many talents who has been awarded the Emmy for his acting and Grammy for his Bluegrass music. From 1976 to 2019, he has also appeared as the host of 'Saturday Night Live'.

The creators of 'Only Murders in the Building' are Steve Martin and John Hoffman who are well-known for 'Grace and Frankie' and 'Looking'.

The show is a straight to order series that was announced recently and there has been no release of a trailer or promos as of now. Watch this space for timely updates about the show.
