'End of life decision'
Sizemore's representative, Charles Lago, made a statement that confirmed that the actor is in bad shape with no room for recovery. "Today, doctors informed (Sizemore’s) family that there is no further hope and have recommended (an) end-of-life decision," Lago said in the statement, adding that Sizemore remains in critical condition. "The family is now deciding end-of-life matters, and a further statement will be issued on Wednesday." Lago added: "We are asking for privacy for his family during this difficult time and they wish to thank everyone for the hundreds of messages of support and prayers that have been received. This has been a difficult time for them," The Hollywood Reporter reported.
A history of drug abuse
Sizemore was born in Detroit, Michigan, his mother, Judith, was a member of the city of Detroit Ombudsman Staff, and his father, Thomas Edward Sizemore Sr., was a lawyer and philosophy professor. Even though he grew up with two educated parents, he called himself "peculiar," as he grew up in a quite rough neighborhood due to which he was always surrounded by crime and drugs. Tom always struggled with drug abuse, which had gone public due to multiple run-ins with law enforcement. The actor was arrested multiple times for domestic violence and drug abuse. He had spent a total of 17 months behind the bars. Everything came to a halt, when Robert De Niro, who was worried about his fellow actor, personally checked Tom into rehab.
Sizemore's cinematic achievements
One of Tom's best cinematic appearances after 'Saving Private Ryan' was in Oliver Stone’s 1989 film 'Born on the Fourth of July'. The actor went on to become a virtuoso in acting when he starred in multiple hits including the 1993 fantasy comedy film 'Heart and Souls', for which he was nominated for the Saturn Award for best supporting actor. Sizemore has also appeared in action films such as 'Pearl Harbor' (2001), starring Ben Affleck, and Ridley Scott's 'Black Hawk Down' (2001). He had also voiced a character, Sonny Forelli, in the video game 'Grand Theft Auto: Vice City'. The list of Sizemore's achievements goes on and on, proving that Tom was an acclaimed actor with experience in not just acting but music. Sizemore was also the lead singer of the Hollywood rock band 'Day 8', which recorded a four-song EP back in 2002, when the band was originally formed.
