'New Amsterdam' Season 2: Does Iggy have what it takes to be a great doctor without crossing professional boundaries?

It is evident that Iggy needs to change his methods, but we sure hope he is able to strike a balance between his personal touch and keeping a professional distance

NBC's 'New Amsterdam' introduced us to some of the best, well-meaning doctors on TV, and one of the most endearing of them all is Dr. Iggy Frome, portrayed by the talented Tyler Labine.

Head of the Psychology Department at New Amsterdam, Iggy almost always finds himself getting way too involved in the lives of his patients, which unfortunately goes against the code of conduct that is expected of him professionally.

Towards the end of season one, we saw Iggy getting investigated by the hospital for his unprofessional behavior, and come to the realization that despite his best intentions, his actions may be hindering the growth of his patients.

While they trust him implicitly and he knows exactly what works for each of them, he realizes that his extremely personal way of treatment has made them too reliant on him.

With Jemma (Lizzy DeClement), he also learned that he needs to give his patients some space. He had visited her foster home to ensure that everything is okay with her, only to see her behave a little aloof.

When her guards were down she explained to him, that he represented her past she wants to forget, and would appreciate if he did not drop in unannounced. He definitely got the point and promised to respect her wishes.

However, the knowledge and awareness of how his actions affects the very patients he is devoted to, hit him like a ton of bricks, and we saw him second-guessing his natural instincts in the finale, leaving his buddy and Head of the Neurological Department Dr. Vijay Kapoor (Anupam Kher) to take over during a consultation.

It is evident that Iggy needs to change his methods, but we sure hope he is able to strike a balance between his personal touch and keeping a professional distance. It would surely be a shame to see such a talented and involved doctor take a backseat from getting involved with his patients altogether — after all, that is what makes him such a valuable asset to 'New Amsterdam'.

Don't forget to tune in to the season two premiere of 'New Amsterdam' on Tuesday, September 24, to see how Iggy uses his newfound awareness to become a better doctor.
