Netflix 'Green Frontier': Young women are dying in the Amazon and one detective is determined to find out why
Netflix has released a little teaser for its upcoming mystery crime thriller series titled 'Green Frontier' ahead of its premiere later this month. Created by Ciro Guerra, who wrote the Oscar-nominated 2015 film 'Embrace of the Serpent', 'Green Frontier' follows a young female detective and her indigenous police partner as they investigate a series of bizarre deaths deep in the Amazon.
Shot completely in the lush and beautiful Colombia, the supernatural crime-mystery focuses on ritualistic murders deep in the heart of the South American jungle. Juana del Río will be playing the role of Helena, who is investigating a spate of killings tied to a prehistoric indigenous race called the Eternals.
The official synopsis of the show, which also bears the Spanish-language title 'Frontera Verde', reads: Deep in the Amazon, on the border of Brazil and Colombia, a series of bizarre deaths are investigated by a young female detective, Helena, and her partner, an indigenous policeman named Reynaldo. It becomes clear that the murders are not the biggest mystery within this jungle when the corpse of a particular young woman has no signs of aging. Simultaneously, we follow the story of Yua, and Ushe, two natives who everyone calls “the Eternals”, and their battle against Joseph, a foreigner who believes the indigenous population is harboring an incredible secret. The stories and characters will collide to unravel a mystery that can change their lives, and the whole of mankind.
According to the first teaser Netflix released, Guerra's 'Green Frontier' promises stunning cinematography, breathtaking landscapes of the Amazon, and striking imagery that is both disturbing and erotic.
Guerra, who is also the showrunner, has co-created 'Green Frontier' with Diego Ramírez Schrempp, Mauricio Leiva-Cock and Jenny Ceballos, who all serve as executive producers. Levia-Cock and Ceballos are from the Colombian banner Dynamo, which produced the first three season of Netflix's 'Narcos' and 'El Chapo'.
