Jokes galore as 'Blockbuster' killed off AGAIN: Years after Netflix put video store out of biz, show gets canceled too
Netflix has made up its mind and will not be reviving 'Blockbuster' for a second season. Starring Randall Park and Melissa Fumero, the series revolves around operating the last Blockbuster Video store in the US. Ironically, this is the second time the streaming giant has put Blockbuster out of business, the first time being when they actually put the popular video rental store out of business. The Internet cannot help but see the irony.
The decision to discontinue 'Blockbuster' was not shocking as the single-camera workplace comedy launched on November 3 but never cracked Netflix's Top 10, as per Deadline. The leading shows and movies are determined by the hours watched and comedy pieces are at a disadvantage considering the episodes are usually half the length. There was a time when the streaming company, still an underdog, was being crushed by Blockbuster, a cultural phenomenon in its time until the tables turned. Netflix wanted to sell its company to Blockbuster for $50 million in 2000 but the latter refused, only to be put out of business. Ironically, one of Netflix's founders Reed Hastings began the company because he was annoyed about a $40 late fee he had to pay for renting out 'Apollo 13' from Blockbuster.

Internet goes wild after Netflix cancels Blockbuster
One user wrote, "If i had a nickel for every time netflix ended blockbuster, i'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice" Another user trolled Blockbuster and tweeted, "You guys keep going out of business I'm never gonna be able to return my copy of Pulp Fiction" One more user said, "Netflix is gonna Netflix. After killing Blockbuster, and then reviving it through the series, ‘BLOCKBUSTER’, Netflix has - once again - killed Blockbuster. ‘BLOCKBUSTER’ the show, based on the chain that Netflix killed, has been cancelled by Netflix. You got that, right?"

One user tweeted, "absolutely insane that Netflix killed Blockbuster, made a TERRIBLE television show about the last Blockbuster store ever, then cancelled it after one season" Another user tweeted, "I think they greenlit this so they could cancel it in the first place to say Netflix cancelled blockbuster" One more user used Blockbuster's policy against itself and wrote, "Blockbuster was cancelled after one season because they failed to pay their late fees"
