NCIS: Actor Sean Murray opens up about Ziva's return and its effect on the team

Sean Murray, who plays Timothy McGee, in an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), spoke about the heartwarming Ziva and McGee reunion scene
UPDATED OCT 4, 2019

If fans were unsatisfied with the brief encounter Timothy McGee (Sean Murray) had with Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) in the season 17 premiere of NCIS, episode two 'Into the Light' had a reunion scene that fans could sink their teeth into. McGee and Ziva finally shared that heartwarming hug we've all been waiting for and McGee spoke about it being a "miracle" to see her alive again.

But the most poignant part of their reunion scene was when McGee asked why Ziva had chosen to confide in Eleanor Bishop (Emily Wickersham) rather than him about her faked death. Sean Murray, in an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), spoke about the reunion and his state of mind after finding out about Ziva's return. "It's complicated. There is part of him that is angry about it, I think. He is angry that she let Bishop know what was going on and not him. So he is hurt by that but he is also incredibly happy to see her again and wants her to be back on the team."

Speaking about having Cote de Pablo back on the sets, Murray revealed that the old sibling chemistry was still there. "Having Cote back was pretty cool. It was interesting as an actor because I hadn't seen Cote for a number of years. Doing the reunion scene was pretty amazing because Cote and I worked together so much, back in the day, that we are like brother and sister. So seeing each other after all these years and knowing each other so well, it made for some really interesting work. It was a blast having Cote back. It was like she never left."

Episode two is also officially the end of the first half of Ziva's return act and she will be back for two more episodes later in the season.

"Every year I love coming back. Besides filming, I get to see all my friends -- the crew, the cast. So getting started is always a good thing. I like getting back to work."

'NCIS' airs Tuesday at 8 p.m. on CBS.
