'One Piece' gets major update on Season 3 as the straw hats continue riding the wave of success on Netflix
Once you enter the world of Netflix's live-action series 'One Piece', there's definitely no going back. The incredibly detailed and riveting Manga universe created by Eiichiro Oda, upon which the live-action show is based, has no dearth of story material. As the recently released sophomore season premiered to positive reviews, the onus is on the streaming platform giant to keep the installments coming.
Fans of 'One Piece' will contend that Season 2 hinted at far greater adventures and battles that lay ahead, and future seasons of the show must bring them to life. Netflix greenlit Season 3 of 'One Piece' back in August 2025.
The rumour mills, however, were long abuzz before that, claiming that filming for Season 3 was already underway. The very fact that the third season was commissioned even before the premiere of Season 2 speaks volumes about the amount of goodwill that 'One Piece' commands at Netflix.
This is in keeping with the plot of the ongoing season, which serves as the stepping stone to a much larger conflict, and one might speculate that the said conflict shall occupy much of Season 3. While the debut season introduced the affable character of Monkey D. Luffy and his pirate crew, adapting the East Blue Saga, the sophomore season jumps right away into the Grand Line. The recruitment of Tony Tony Chopper, the favourite reindeer doctor from the Drum Kingdom, does work wonders!
As of this writing, there's no official release window for 'One Piece' Season 3. Nevertheless, judging by the release schedules of the first and second seasons, one might make an educated guess. The first season premiered in 2023, followed by the sophomore season, which was released in March. The long delay between the first two seasons can be attributed to 'One Piece' being a heavily CGI-dependent show. If one considers the fact that the third season began principal photography in late 2025, new episodes won't be around until at least the second half of 2027. In other words, audiences will have to wait.
On the other hand, the long wait might be offset by the fact that most of the cast is speculated to return for the third season. This includes Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, with Mackenyu as Zoro, Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp, Emily Rudd as Nami, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. The plot of the upcoming edition is expected to adapt the Alabasta story, emphasizing Joe Manganiello as the ruthless pirate warlord Crocodile.
The desert kingdom of Alabasta won't be a trifle, as Luffy and his pirate crew are headed to discover. Moreover, an appearance from the elusive villain Blackbird might be on the cards as well. 'One Piece' is available on Netflix.
