Will 'NCIS: New Orleans' Season 7 see Tammy and Sebastian become a couple? We sure hope not

The two live together and obviously share a lot of chemistry... that's fertile grounds for an on-screen pairing

‘NCIS: New Orleans’ Season 7 is soon to arrive. While the show is a “procedural” and every episode tackles different cases, there are some things that go beyond the casework. The show’s central story delves deep into the main characters’ lives and their interpersonal relationships.

While the previous season concentrated mostly on two characters — Pride (Scott Bakula) and the now-dead LaSalle (Lucas Black) — it did touch upon others. And there are two characters, particularly that we are very interested in. The official Twitter account for the show shared a clip of Tammy Gregorio (Vanessa Ferlito) and Sebastian Lund (Rob Kerkovich), teasing fans about what may come. The clip was full of old shots of the two, always in a constant state of banter, sort of like an old married couple. The tweet said, “Tammy and Sebastian's banter is a vibe and we are all for it. #NCISNOLA returns this Sunday.”

So, is this a promise that things will finally move forward between the two? Especially because in the last season we saw that Tammy was very affected when Sebastian was awaiting news on his application to join the REACT team. Tammy’s reaction to the letter obviously betrayed how much she cared about Sebastian, even if her tough, no-nonsense exterior doesn’t often suggest otherwise. In fact, she even asked Pride if hoping Sebastian didn’t get into REACT made her a bad friend.

The two live together and obviously share a lot of chemistry. They are constantly fighting but it’s often in good sport. They argue but it’s friendly. They both know each other very well and possibly better than others on the NCIS team know them. So, if there is ever grounds for an on-screen duo to become a couple, Tammy and Sebastian have a definite shot at it.

But there are some problems with this as well. While Tammy was indeed married to a man in the past, the show has increasingly indicated that she is more into women. One of her relationships with a woman was also mentioned in previous seasons of the show and in the last season, Tammy herself mentioned how she struggled with her sexuality because of her mother.

But that being said, we don’t know for sure if she is gay or if she is bisexual. Sebastian, on the other hand, has kind of been typecast as the sexless nerd in the show. We seldom see him in a relationship with anyone and it almost seems as if he’s uninterested at points.

So, does it then make sense to pair Tammy and Sebastian together? The two no doubt share a great bond, a really tight friendship that is entertaining to see on television. But pairing them together could be the end of that. For one, it will take away sexual tension (that’s sometimes there). And for another, it would mean irreparable harm in the event the relationship goes south. It would also be a big blow to the show’s LGBTQIA+ fan following who will see a gay or gay-coded character being forced into heteronormativity.

We sure want to see more of Tammy and Sebastian. They are both excellent characters, and we want to know more about their lives. But do we want to see them as a couple? Well, they already are a platonic one. Why ruin a good thing?

Season 7 of 'NCIS: New Orleans' begins airing on CBS on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at 9.30/8.30c.
