NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ took the world by storm when it hit theatres in May 2022. The movie turned out to be a huge hit and earned universal acclaim for direction, acting, storyline, and epic aerial sequences. Apart from getting rave reviews, ‘Maverick’ was the first movie to earn more than the $1 billion mark at the box office and many believed that it was a frontrunner for Best Picture nomination at the 95th Academy Awards. The film continues to create a strong buzz before the Oscar season starts and has been named Best Picture by the National Board of Review (NBR).

In other categories, Steven Spielberg will be honored with the Best Director accolade for ‘The Fabelmans’ while Colin Farrell has won Best Actor for Martin McDonagh’s ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’. Farrell continues to be a frontrunner for Best Actor at the Academy Awards and his recent wins at other critics’ society awards undoubtedly make him the favorite to win the golden trophy. On the other hand, Michelle Yeoh emerged victorious in the Best Actress category and won the award for her impeccable performance in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’.

Sarah Polley’s ‘Women Talking’ was awarded Best Ensemble by the National Board of Review. The movie features a stellar cast, which includes the likes of Claire Foy, Rooney Mara, Jessie Buckley, Frances McDormand, Judith Ivey, Michelle McLeod, Ben Whishaw, Sheila McCarthy, Kate Hallett, Liv McNeil, and August Winter.

The organization also revealed the list of top 10 movies of the year and shockingly, Todd Field’s critically-acclaimed ‘TAR’ couldn’t manage to find a place in the list. Meanwhile, SS Rajamouli’s magnum-opus ‘RRR’ continues its golden run in the west and found a place in the Top 10 list. Rajamouli recently won the Best Director accolade for ‘RRR’ at the New York Film Critics Circle awards, which made people believe that the movie has become a frontrunner for Best Picture nomination.
