Top 2020 music festivals from Coachella to Fuji Rock: Dates, lineups, venues and everything you need to know

With so many new artists and albums to look forward to this year, take a look at some of the world's hottest music festivals and what to expect in 2020. Here's our list featuring some of the greatest commercial and non-commercial artists.

Coachella

Dates: Friday, April 10, 2020 – Sunday, April 19, 2020
Where: Empire Polo Club, Indio, California 

Coachella is probably the biggest festival held in the U.S. with a lineup of the world's most leading artists. It boasts a generous range of genres, from hip-hop to rock to pop and the list goes on. 2019 saw some astounding performances from Ariana Grande (who gave a surprise performance with some N-Sync members), Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, Billie Eilish, cumbia stars Ocho Ojos and a whole lot more.

A reunited Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott, and Frank Ocean will headline this year's Coachella, according to Us Weekly. Coachella is an all-ages festival, but under-18's must be accompanied by a legal guardian. 

Lollapalooza

Dates: Thursday, July 30, 2020 – Sunday, August 2, 2020
Where: Grant Park, Illinois, but will also be held in Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Sweden, France, America, and Germany.

Another festival giant featuring buzz-creating artists, Lollapalooza is based in Chicago, Illinois, at Grant Park, although more countries have been added to the roster over the years and this year it will feature performances in seven countries, namely Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Sweden (held in Stockholm), France (held in Paris), America (held in Chicago) and Germany (held in Berlin).

The line-up has not been confirmed yet for the U.S. slot, but has been announced for the South American festivals, including Guns N’ Roses, The Strokes, Lana Del Rey, Travis Scott, Martin Garrix, and Gwen Stefani as headliners for all three 2020 events. Additional notable mentions include Armin Van Buuren, Cage The Elephant, Vampire Weekend, Jaden Smith, James Blake, Brockhampton, and certainly many more.

Bonnaroo

Date: June 11-14, 2020
Where: Great Stage Park in Manchester, Tennessee

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is an American annual four-day music festival and has been one of the top festivals since it's start in 2002 and held exclusively at Great Stage Park in Manchester, Tennessee. The festival boasts a large line-up of artists not primarily mainstream but includes a host of different genres of jazz, bluegrass, electronic, indie rock, classic rock, world music, gospel, folk, reggae and much more.

Last year's festival included performances from The Lumineers, Post Malone, The Lonely Island, Cardi B, The Avett Brothers, Griz, Kacey Musgraves and more. This year's performers have not been announced yet but you can sign-up to become a Bonnaroo E-List member to get updates through the official site here.

Burning Man

Date: Sunday, August 30, 2020 - Monday, September 7, 2020
Where: Black Rock City in Black Rock Desert, Nevada

Burning Man aims at using creative experiences to extend cultures and inspirations from the event to the rest of the world and primarily focus on the electronic dimensions of music including techno, tech house, trance, house, deep house, dubstep, trap, bass, big room, EDM, chillout, downtempo, Goa trance, psytrance, drum and bass.

Last year's artists featured another extensive list, some including Adam Beyer, Jamie Jones, Carl Cox, and The Martinez Brothers. The 2020 lineup will be announced closer to the festival.

Fuji Rock

Date: Friday, August 21, 2020 – Monday, August 24, 2020
Where:  Naeba Ski Resort, Yuzawa, Niigata Prefecture, Japan

We have not forgotten all the alternative and rock fans out there! Fuji Rock features more than 200 Japanese and international musicians, boasting the largest outdoor music event in Japan. This year's lineup isn't announced yet, but last year featured The Cure, Thom Yorke, The Chemical Brothers, SIA, Death Cab for Cutie, James Blake, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Martin Garrix, and more.

Tomorrowland

Date: Taking place on two weekends - Friday, July 17, 2020 - Sunday, July 19, 2020, and Friday, July 24, 2020 - Sunday, July 26, 2020
Where: Recreation area De Schorre in Boom, Belgium. 

The Belgian festival primarily focuses on electronic and has quickly grown into one of the titans of the industry, commonly selling out in a matter of minutes. 2019 held performances from electronic/dance giants such as David Guetta, The Chainsmokers, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Alesso and even some performances from artists not exclusive to electronic such as Bebe Rexha and Young Thug.

Benicassim

Date: Thursday, July 16, 2020 – Sunday, July 19, 2020
Where:  Castellón de la Plana, between Valencia and Barcelona, Spain

Known as Festival Internacional de Benicàssim in Spain, Benicassim mainly features indie and alternative, having seen Kings Of Leon, Fatboy Slim, The Killers and Lana Del Rey as headliners in 2019. The Spanish indie favorite festival this year will headline Foals, The Libertines, Khalid, Martin Garrix, The Lumineers, Steve Aoki, Liam Gallagher, Vampire Weekend, Armin van Buuren and Don Diablo. The mix of artists is certainly amazing and 2020's fest should be jaw-dropping.

Splendour in the Grass

Date: Friday, July 24, 2020 – Sunday, July 26, 2020
Where: North Byron Parklands, Yelgun, Australia

A premier music festival in Australia featuring some of the biggest names in rock, indie and more, Splendour in the Grass has featured artists such as Coldplay, Kanye West, Arctic Monkeys, Lorde and more. According to Music Feeds, Splendor in the Grass 2020 will celebrate its 20th anniversary, and the lineup is going to be monumental, so expect great things. The 2020 lineup will be announced closer to the festival.

Reading and Leeds

Date: Friday, August 28, 2020 - Sunday, August 30, 2020
Where: Reading takes place in Reading RG1. The festival site is based just outside Reading town center. The Leeds fest is in Bramham Park, Leeds.

The U.K.'s reputable festival Reading and Leeds offers two options, a festival held in England's Reading and one in its northern counterpart, Leeds, both running simultaneously. The festival hosts a multitude of genres including pop, hip-hop, grime, indie, house, techno, and various rock genres.

Both festivals hold comedy events, cinema, funfairs, silent discos, signing tents, food stalls and bars. The many headliners for 2019 included Bastille, Foo Fighters, Juice WRLD, Twenty One Pilots, The Distillers and much more. The lineup for 2020 is yet to be announced.

Sziget

Date: Wednesday, August 5, 2020 - Tuesday, August 11, 2020
Where: Óbuda Island, Budapest, Hungary

Sziget has quickly earned a reputation for being one of the biggest multi-genre festivals in the world, having featured artists such as Ed Sheeran, Gorillaz, Muse, Rihanna, Florence + The Machine, and lists approximately 550,000 people each year. Sziget is commonly referred to as a European alternative to the Burning Man festival due to its unique features and atmosphere, combining music, art and an alternative lifestyle. Some headliners for 2020 include Post Malone, Twenty One Pilots, Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, The 1975 and more.
