MTV is on the hunt for this year's 'MTV Hottest Summer Superstar' and voting has already begun. The competition, described as "the biggest music stunt of the summer" on MTV's website, has returned for its eighth year and will see 50 artists battling for the title. Since its debut, One Direction are the competition's biggest record-holders as they won for three consecutive years from 2013 to 2015. K-pop supergroup BTS earned the title in 2019 and fans are hoping BTS will win for a second year as they are currently trending on Twitter. If they get the title for 2020, they will be the first artist to be voted #MTVHottest Summer Superstar more than once since One Direction. Blackpink are also trending as fans hope they will be the first female K-pop group to get the crown. See the full list of previous winners below.

BTS fans have been quick to flood Twitter with their support. "I’m proud to be an ARMY. BTS made my life so beautiful, they made my life more wonderful & special. They’re my world & everything. I’ll always with them no matter what happens. I’ll love them eternally with all my heart," said a fan while another wrote, "I will love, trust and support them no matter what! #MTVHottest BTS @BTS_twt." Blackpink-supporting comments include, "BLACKPINK will remain superior even if how many times y'all drag them they will still FLY HIGH!" and "Keep slaying queens" and "Blinks let's give this win for the Pinks."

Other trending names include Lady Gaga (who won in 2017), Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Billie Eilish and more. Artists nominated for the competition include Anne-Marie, Ariana Grande, Ava Max, Beyoncé, Calvin Harris, Camila Cabello, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Drake, Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, Halsey, Harry Styles, Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry, Khalid, Megan Thee Stallion and many more.

The winner will be decided by you as you place your votes: tweet #MTVHottest followed by the name of the contender you're voting for and you may retweet as many times as you wish. Voting opens at 2 pm EST on 18 July 2020 and closes at 5 am EST on 24 August 2020. Votes placed before or after this period will not be counted. The 'MTV Hottest Summer Superstar' winner will be announced on MTV on August 29. A disclaimer for voting reads, "MTV reserves the absolute right to discount any votes that contravene the voting mechanism, or any tweets that contain anything offensive, sexually explicit or suggestive in nature, blasphemous, politically motivated, defamatory or otherwise illegal in any way."
