SHOCK AND DESPAIR: The moment Foo Fighters fans in Bogota learned of Taylor Hawkins' death
Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins’ death came as a shock as he was just an hour away from playing along with his band members at the Festival Estéreo Picnic in Bogota, Colombia. Hawkins was just 50 and his body was apparently found in a Bogotá hotel where he was staying on Friday, March 25.
The Foo Fighters’ performance was the main highlight of Friday’s festival, which was taking place at Briceño golf course, in Sopó, Cundinamarca. As the event was going on, people were desperately waiting for the band’s performance without any clue as to what had happened. But minutes later, the members of Black Pumas, before their performance, reportedly got on the stage and announced the tragic news, which left everyone devastated.

In a statement, organizers of the Estéreo Picnic said, “With a broken heart, we are here to tell you sad news. Due to a very serious medical situation, Foo Fighters will not be able to perform at the Festival tonight.” Foo Fighters also issued a statement saying, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”
After the distressing announcement, though Black Pumas went on to perform and pay tribute to Hawkins and the Foo Fighters, there was reportedly no energy and spark. One of the festival-goers from Campo Briceño, who had come only to see the band live, said: “There are people crying on the floor.” Camilo, one of the participants and fans of the band, noted: “My group of friends and I came for the Foo Fighters and at first we couldn't believe it. It is news that breaks our hearts and although we will try to enjoy the rest of the event, our energy totally dropped. And not only ours, the people at the festival feel sadder.” Another festival attendee named Nicolás Gallego, who came from Manizales, said that after hearing the news he and his brother could not help but cry.
Meanwhile, a lot of people have taken to social media to pay tribute to Hawkins. A user tweeted, “Like every @foofighters fan, devastated by the untimely death of Taylor Hawkins. Great drummer and example of a human being. He will be missed in the music business and his legacy will live on forever.” Another one wrote, “It's times like these you learn to live again It's times like these you give and give again It's times like these you learn to love again It's times like these time and time again May his memory be a blessing.”

I wish I had seen them live. But now I won't ever see the original lineup. Idk if they will go on, i'm sure they will. Maybe Taylor wanted it that way. But he was such an awesome guy, talented and funny.
