Delays singer, Greg Gilbert died after a battle with bowel cancer. He was 44 years old. Greg's brother and band member Aaron announced the news of his demise on Thursday, September 30. “This afternoon at 2:22; we walked my brother back home to somewhere out there in the ether,” he wrote. “Greg died surrounded in the endless love that us & all of you have given him on this journey. Your messages, your encouragement and your compassion have been our oxygen for the last five years. He was my brother and my best friend, and we did everything together. It was the greatest honour to be with him as he took one last gentle breath before leaving us. I could have sworn we were limitless."

Aaron further wrote, "Thank you for sharing our grief, and for making it easier to carry at times while you were firefighting battles of your own. And thank you for making Greg such a special person in your lives. I’m so glad we all existed at the same time. We’re only temporary, let’s make our temporary extraordinary." We have witnessed the demise of several great music stars recently. Dusty Hill, Biz Markie, Sound Sultan, Robert Eugene Steinhardt are to name a few.

Colin Fox, Rowly, and brothers Greg and Aaron Gilbert together formed the Indie band Delays in 2001. The band went through a few name changes like Corky, then Idoru. However, the band’s debut album 'Faded Seaside Glamour' in 2004 was under the Delays moniker. They had three more albums as a group: 'You See Colours' (2005), 'Everything’s the Rush' (2008), and 'Star Tiger Star Ariel' (2010).

Gilbert was diagnosed with cancer in 2016 and had been updating fans about his journey. In a long Instagram post in August 2021, the music star informed his fans that he was taken off treatment. "I have, unfortunately, been taken off of treatment and am now being treated solely for pain relief at Countess Mountbatten Hospice. The pains are mostly under control and the nurses here are nothing less than angels. But I'm now in an uncertain future where I don't know how long I have and what the days will look like," he wrote. Gilbert had studied at Winchester Art School prior to building Delays and he drew almost every day following his diagnosis.
