'Money Heist- Berlin' on Netflix: Pedro Alonso starrer spin-off series all set for December release

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Money Heist' fans will be happy to hear that an all-new spin-off series is coming to Netflix. After Berlin's unfortunate death in Season 2, Netflix has released a spin-off series that will be all about him. When Netflix began streaming the Spanish crime series, few could have predicted the fan base the series would amass over its run. With a total of 190 million viewer hours in its first week, the series also known as 'La Casa de Papel' aired its final episode on Netflix in December 2021. This was a sign of the series' continued appeal over its five-season run.

At Netflix's 2022 Tudum event, 'Money Heist' creator Alex Pina revealed details about what's to come. "This is going to be a trip throughout the golden years of the character," he said. "When he was stealing all over Europe madly in love." Berlin has been married five times, so it could be a wild ride.

'Money Heist: Berlin' announcement

In a date announcement video released by the streamer, we can now confirm that the spinoff series based on fan-favorite Andres de Fonollosa aka Berlin will be coming to the streamer in December 2023. The short teaser shows Pedro Alonso, who last played Berlin aka Andres de Fonolloso in 'Money Heist' Season 5, back in action planning a new heist. The video reveals that Berlin will carry out a carefully planned jewel heist in the 'City of Love' and that a mysterious woman could play a crucial role in the story. The teaser also reveals that viewers can expect the series to be released this December.

Berlin's backstory

Berlin sacrificed his life in Season 2 of 'Money Heist,' but the character was so popular that he reappeared in various flashbacks in Seasons 3 through 5. Since the character is technically dead in the current timeline of the main series, Berlin will serve as a backstory, depicting a big heist he undertakes before finally meeting the Professor (Álvaro Morte), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó) and the rest of the gang. As for the setting of the series, Netflix's use of the term "city of love" seems to confirm that Paris will be a central setting for Berlin's big jewel heist.
