Model Jeon Sun-hye gets hate online after revealing breakup with Block B's U-Kwon

Model and broadcaster Jeon Sun-hye, who was in a relationship with Block B’s Kim Yoo-kwon for the past 10 years, reveals they have broken up

While there is a lot of joy and chaos around K-pop idols announcing their relationships, fans are often left sad when they call it quits with their significant others. This seems to be the case with Block B’s Ukwon (Kim Yoo Kwon) and his long-time girlfriend, model Jeon Sun-hye as well. Fans of the boy group had been rooting for the couple for many years but it seems like the two have finally moved on.

Back in December 2012, fans were ecstatic to hear that Ukwon, who was 20 at the time, had found love. In his post to fans of the boy group, BBC, Ukwon revealed that he had been dating model Jeon Sun Hye for a while, although many fans were already aware of the relationship before the public disclosure. Talking about Sun-hye, U-kwon stated that she gave him a lot of love and support when he was exhausted and tired.

Model Jeon Sun-hye announces breakup with U-Kwon

Now, after almost 10 years since the couple started dating, model Jeon Sun-hye has shocked BBCs as well as fans of K-pop in general by announcing their breakup. On May 1, Sun-hye revealed on Instagram that she and Block B’s U-Kwon had called it quits as lovers and were now back to being friends. Jeon Sun-hye shot to fame after she ranked third in the Global Beauty World Model Competition as well as the Korean version of the 'Next Top Model' contest.

In her post, Jeon Sun-hye, who is four years older than U-Kwon, stated that she got a lot of messages from fans who were worried about the relationship. She said, “I am going to talk about it very carefully after thinking about this.” She added that she and U-Kwon have decided to move on as friends rather than lovers and call it quits on their decade-long romantic relationship. 

U-Kwon has been quite vocal about his affection towards Sun-hye. He has recounted on various public variety shows how they first met at a music video shoot and reflected on their relationship since 2012. Before U-Kwon enlisted in the military in 2019, the singer also appeared on the MBC Every1 show, ‘Video Star’ where he stated that he wished to marry his long-time girlfriend before enlisting but they never reported tying the knot.

‘Please be nice to Sun-hye’

Some fans of U-Kwon believe that it was Sun-hye who did not want to marry U-Kwon and this led to their breakup - which is why the model has been receiving a lot of hate online. On the other hand, some are trying to motivate her by calling out trolls and sending her positive messages online. One fan said, “Pls be nice to Sunhye, it seems from her ig story shes been receiving hate for just posting that her and ukwon decided to become good friends after breaking up. I sent her like a “stay strong” message and she immediately responded saying thank you, its not hard to be nice yall.”

One fan said, “Ukwon and sunhye already got a lot of hate when they dated... i hope they don't get hate for a mutual breakup... ppl be hatin' for anything nowadays.” Another said, “Nooooooo Sunhye and Ukwon.” One fan added, “Ukwon and sunhye???? i hate it here.” Another stated, "Crazy how suddenly everyone personally knows Ukwon & Sunhye & were a part of their relationship...so stupid not everyone's a bad person for ending their relationship for the better. Noone knows why, bt they have their reasons. Stop pointing fingers at who's terrible & who's not.” Another fan pointed out in support, “It takes a courage to stay as friends after 10 yrs of relationship ang sakit non hindi ko alam pano nila naggwa yun. I really thought ukwon and his gf will get marry soon but after 10 yrs..they decided to  go on their own ways.”
